The source material for this film is the novel entitled "Faithful Travelers: A Father, a Daughter, a Fly-Fishing Journey of the Heart" by James Dodson, which was discovered by producer Alixandre Witlin who at the time was president of David James Elliott's production company located on the Paramount lot. Witlin then shared with her husband and producer Joshua D. Maurer who together with Witlin, successfully pitched the story to CBS executive Bella Bajaria as a two hour MOW. Maurer then brought on board New Regency to deficit finance and share in the development. Maurer and Witlin spear-headed the screenplay development and hired writer John Pielmeier to adapt as well as running point on the acquisition of the IP upon which the story was based.
