The very very low IMDb rating (1.2 at my time of writing) which this dud got is perfectly justified.Misogyny runs rampant all along this sinister farce.I've not read Raymond Queneau's novel (which he wrote under the "Sally Mara" pseud" )but French critics all agree to say the writer was betrayed.

In Dublin, during the 1916 revolution;historical background has been quickly dropped in favour of blue jokes, vulgar bawdy stories (the "butterfly" scene takes the biscuit). So bad that Elisabeth Wiener's career which was promising ("la Prisonnière " by HG Clouzot,1968)sank without a trace after this disaster.

Only the score (written by Claude Bolling, probably inspired by Irish folksong) is not bad.
