Great movie....great performances
shashikrishna19 April 2005
'Muskuraahat' was one of the most under rated movies of its times. As a teenager I loved the comic approach this movie took. The story basically takes place in Ooty where Jay Mehta and Annu Kapoor are guides for visiting tourists. Amrish Puri plays a strict retired army man who lives his life on his own terms. Revathi plays a mentally challenged girl who ends up in these people's lives. The movie has me laughing even today due to the witty lines and extremely competent performances by the unknown Jay Mehta and of course, the immensely talented Annu Kapoor. Revathi once again proves that she is a fine performer with her (possibly first) Hindi performance. Amrish Puri is super cool as ever. The movie also had some very soulful numbers including "Gun gun karta aaya bhanwra..." Its a shame this movie did not do well at the box office, but its a perfect movie for a lazy afternoon when all you want to do is be in bed and laugh your head off.

I give it a cool 7 out of 10 for the laughters.

Another masterpiece from Priyadarshan

People might not watch due to hero and heroine but believe me this is very nice and good worth watching movie comedy action everything and yes Jai Mehta done good job you can't say his acting was not good. Love this movie. Amrish puri, Jagdeep and Anu Kapoor acting is worth watching. Everyone done their job and you can't find anything missing. Even the actor of the movie was son of producer but he done very good job you can't say this movie was his debut movie. I watched first time this movie and I had to write down review this my second or Third time when I am writing a review. Watch movie.....

A Masterpiece from Priyadarshan!!
Japin2 December 2010
For my money, this is the best Hindi comedy i have seen till date.(and i've seen a lot of em) everything about the movie right from Cinematography to songs is fantastic. its a simple movie that will make you fall in love with it instantly. the 1st time i watched this movie, i absolutely loved it (i was a schoolboy then) and watched it again just recently and loved it even more. i don't like to reveal the plot in reviews but i would definitely like to talk about the actors, most of whom put in classy performances. Amrish Puri is perfect in his role (as always). Revathi is excellent (a real actress, not another 5 ft 10' doll with a wooden face). jay mehta is OK but the real show stealer for me is Annu Kapoor, what performance! probably the most underrated actor of his era. His dialogue dilevery is magnificent and his timing flawless. every scene that features him is an absolute delight. Jagdeep is pretty hilarious too. have never laughed so much while watching a bollywood movie. the location is gorgeous and the songs melodious. its unfortunate that it is almost impossible to find a CD or DVD of this masterpiece in India. BTW a must watch for those who appreciate good cinema.

A very sweet n romantic comedy movie

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is one of mine favorite movie. Movie starts with Jay Mehta, whose dream is to become a rich man by marrying a rich girl, but in reality he is an ordinary travel guide, who shows the tourist the beauty of Ooty, he lives with his friend cum Photographer Annu kapoor (shows his class in comedy in this movie), then a princess comes, Revathy and Jay falls in love with her, but later he came to know she is a mad girl, and there is a great reward for the one who inform where she is.... Now Annu kapoor and Jay mehta, are trying to hide the girl from everyone, and to win the reward by informing her parents, but reality is far away what it seems. Amrish Puri does the role of Retired judge who is living alone in Ooty, and ended up all his relation due to some reason. Movie is a complete family one, with full and entertaining journey. Annu Kapoor is most impressive among all of them, Jay, Revathy and Amrish Puri are excellent in their act, Jagdeep supported well. Location is beautiful, And direction is perfect by none other than Priyadarshan. All Songs are beautiful whether its gungun karta aaya bhawra or soja soja rajkumari or peeche mat aa. Don't know why this movie was flop, there is nothing wrong in this movie, don't miss this flick, its an excellent and best of the best work of Priyadarshan.

The story is about a girl whom selfish people want to get murdered out of sheer misunderstanding.

I saw the Movie "Muskarahat" about 14 years ago for the first time. Its impact is so great in my mind that I wish to see it again and again when I wish to have a pleasant mood with real laughters. The story was woven beautifully with main focus on comedy.I rank this film in the category of best Indian comic stories like Angoor,Kam-chor, Chashm-bad-dour,Hangama, Chachi-420,Gol Mal, etc.But unfortunately this beautiful film could not make good business on the box office as I hear. This is the light comedy, with Amrish puri and Annu Kapoor at their best. The rest of the actors have equally done well.Jay Mehta & Rivathi, the Hero and Heroine, although new faces, performed well.I started liking Jagdeep after watching this movie. Two songs are very melodious. The jokes are original and aptly fitted into the powerful story. The standard of direction is excellent. The Director,Priyadarshan has kept every minor thing in view and endeavored that the viewer gets the maximum charm and recreation out of the production.
