Kids say the funniest things, don’t they? Not only do they tell you how it is, but they draw it how they see it too, and some of the things that they come out with is just hilarious. Not going to lie, there seems to be a recurring theme of phallic shapes and blatant, yet hurtful honesty.

Kids say the funniest things, eh? Unless they’ve been blessed with an above-average Iq and an alarming level of self-awareness. Then they’re just annoying.
It isn’t enough for these kids to be smart; they have to sigh, roll their eyes or look to camera as everyone around them struggles to work out what they just said. But we understand. We get it. They’re simply misunderstood, underappreciated, a child born in the wrong time. We know that, sadly, life can be tough for a precocious kid; as many are forced to postpone writing their first novel or tackling Fermat’s Last Theorem and instead concentrate their efforts into asking themselves why they’re so lonely. Indeed, to be called ‘precocious’ isn’t quite the compliment it once was. Think of how remarkably prescient Hollywood assumes all kids to be; if they’re not seeing dead people, they...

This is a charming documentary about Irish women and their ideas about men – but pretty obvious and soft-focus too, says Peter Bradshaw
Documentary-maker Ken Wardrop interviews 70 Irish women – ranging in age from girlhood to widowhood – on the subject of men. The result is sparky and cheerful if condescending and weirdly infantilising. You may remember the old TV show Kids Say the Funniest Things: this is Kids and Adults Say the Most Heartwarming Things. Wardrop's interviewees are great: vibrant and intelligent. But they are asked for nothing other than sweet, pleasant thoughts on men, hearth and home. In DVD form, this would make a nice Mother's Day present.
