Narad rushed to Lord Vishnu to warn of the danger, who was tending to his guests and fellow gods Brahma and Shiva on this occasion. In recognition of his past achievements and to prevent further calamity from befalling the earth, the council of the demigods decided to satisfy the desire of the sage. The holy trinity blessed Sage Atri and his wife Anasuya with a son named Datta ("bestowed") to whom they imbued their souls.
