a fun Canadian Indie movie
I saw this in the theater when it came out- I mention this because bringing my friends to see this movie is what finally won them over to my passion for low budget Canadian movies.
The plot loosely revolves around two young friends who's emotional lives are disrupted by the pending arrival of the first 24 hour corner store in their city. The two slackers spend their time wandering around the streets, talking about life etc. and often end up at a little mom & pop type corner store- which is going to close down because of the proximity of the new store. Their anger over the unfairness of this corporate takeover of their city sparks them to examine their own lives.
This is the kind of movie your intellectual stoner friends make when they feel inspired. Not brilliant or polished, but honest and rambling fun. We see a young talent stretching it's limbs, trying out techniques of narration, both visual and plot-wise. I wouldn't say this was a good movie, but it has stuck with me for fifteen years. The falling down the stairs scene, and the final revelation of just what that gritty super eight film is of. I would jump at the chance of seeing this film again and recommend it (if at all possible) to anyone who likes low budget indie film.
