- Cera's Dad: [Angry with Cera for not telling him about Pterano] Cera?
- Cera: I - I thought you might be angry.
- Cera's Dad: [In a gentle tone] Angry, angry? Ooh, I'm not angry -
- [In an angry tone]
- Cera's Dad: I'm *furious!*
- [shows planets in space and Petrie starts to narrate]
- Petrie: A long, long time ago, when big dots in sky were even more shiny and great circle real smooth - not pockety like now. And whole world very different. But then, there were no threehorn, no longneck - not even sharptooth! No, only one type animal, which fill sky with mighty screech and big blubby sound. This most smart, most brave and handsome creature to ever rule world. The fliers!
- Cera: *What!* Hold it right there! That's not even *close* to the way it happens.
- [Littlefoot tells about the bright light he saw last night]
- Littlefoot: It - it flew real low and it shined like the bright circle - only blue and it made a crackling sound, like, like fire in the trees.
- Brown spiketail: Look here, nobody else saw this thing, how do you explain that?
- Littlefoot: I - I don't know. I guess, everyone was asleep. You believe me, don't you grandpa?
- Grandpa: Of course I believe in you Littlefoot - but er, erm...
- Littlefoot: But what?
- Grandpa: Perhaps the flying rock you saw only seemed different. Perhaps you were still a little sleepy. Or maybe it was something you saw in a dream - isn't that also possible?
- Littlefoot: I - I guess so, only...
- Rainbow Face #1: It's always like this, isn't it?
- Rainbow Face #2: Yes, if people don't see things with their own eyes it doesn't exist - what limited thinking.
- Grandpa: Oh I - er, beg your pardon?
- Rainbow Face #1: As you should - I mean, what if the little longneck did see something extraordinary...
- Rainbow Face #2: ...Miraculous.
- Cera's Dad: Impossible!
- Rainbow Face #2: Really? Have you really seen *all* there is to see? Are there no mysteries left for you?
- Cera's Dad: Er, well erm, no!
- Cera's Dad: *Quiet!* You're not from around here are you?
- Rainbow Face #2: You might say that.
- Cera's Dad: Then let me tell you, how things work in these parts.
- Rainbow Face #1: Oh please do.
- Rainbow Face #2: This should be *fascinating*.
- Cera's Dad: First, a flying rock is a flying rock. Second, fire can't be cold and third, there is nothing beyond the mysterious beyond!
- Rainbow Face #1: You sure?
- Cera's Dad: Yes and I'm sure I don't need any blabbing rainbowfaces, filling our young ones' heads with rubbish!
- Petrie: How come you not play?
- Littlefoot: [sighing] I'm still thinking about this morning. Except for grandma and grandpa, nobody believes me.
- Ducky: We believe you - right Spike?
- [Spike nods]
- Ducky: Only um - Littlefoot, well, I can see the stone in the fire and the stone is cold. But - how can a stone which is cold be on fire? I do not understand - no, no, no.
- Littlefoot: I know it doesn't make much sense - but, I saw what I saw.
- Littlefoot: [asking if Cera believes in Littlefoot's stone of cold fire sighting] Cera?
- Cera: I don't know - I mean, maybe if I'd seen it myself.
- Littlefoot: That's it! If we find that stone of cold fire then everyone can see it for themselves, that'd prove I was telling the truth!
- Rinkus: Ooh, you bent my beak.
- Pterano: The next time, keep it shut!
- Sierra: Why should we? Them brats wouldn't fall for your little act. I say we go find that cold - fire - thingy on our own.
- Pterano: I repeat Mr Sierra, we don't know where the stone landed.
- Rinkus: Then why not simply make the longneck tell us where it is?
- [making head cutting gesture]
- Rinkus: Or else.
- Pterano: [Pterano bashes Rinkus on the head] Mr Rinkus. If we threaten the young ones, we'll put the elders on alert. They will watch our every move and our claws will be lost! Now is that want you want?
- Rinkus: N - n - no - er, of course not!
- [trips over a tree and falls]
- Pterano: [to Sierra] Therfore, we must be calm and patient. Young Littlefoot will talk - and when he does... The stone of cold fire, will be mine!
- Grandpa: Were you splashing round in the bubbling mud again?
- Littlefoot: No, we were just sitting talking in the tall trees.
- Grandpa: Oh, that's perfect...
- Littlefoot: Only - then we had a visitor.
- Grandpa: Oh - and who was that?
- Littlefoot: Petrie's, uncle Pterano.
- Grandma: Oh my goodness! Here - in the Great Valley?
- Littlefoot: And he was with some other fliers. I know he's Petrie's uncle but - there's something about him that - ooh, well, I just don't like him. Is that bad?
- Grandpa: Littlefoot, you have good instincts and you should pay attention to them.
- Grandma: Did Pterano tell you why he left the herd?
- Littlefoot: [unsure] Well - he said the other grown-ups - couldn't see very well.
- Grandpa: What on earth! We could see just fine - as a matter of fact, we saw right through him!
- Grandpa: It just sounds like Pterano is up to his old tricks again.
- Littlefoot: Er, what old tricks?
- Grandpa: Oh - well let's just say that if we hadn't put a stop to Pterano, we might never had made it to the Great Valley.
- Littlefoot: That's awful!
- Grandpa: Yes, it was... Someday, when you're older, I'll tell you about it.
- Littlefoot: Oh, why do I have to wait until...
- Grandma: In the meantime, remember, Pterano considers he knows everything, even when he knows nothing.
- Grandpa: So be careful, will you?
- Littlefoot: OK, I promise.
- Petrie: [talking about the stone of cold fire] Well, me just thinking... Sure wish me see it too.
- [laughs]
- Petrie: Where'd you say it land again?
- Littlefoot: Well, it - went over the top of threehorn peak, but kind of off to the side. Oh, what's it matter, we can't go there anyway.
- Ducky: Why did you ask Petrie?
- Petrie: Me?
- [laughing again and lying]
- Petrie: Oh no reason. Just er - want to know.
- Cera: Ha! It's more like your *uncle* wants to know, right Petrie?
- Petrie: [lying] Yes, no - well, maybe him too - but honest, me...
- [Falls down hill]
- Ducky: [Petrie has just tumbled down a hill and crashed into hard pinecones] Petrie, are you OK?
- Cera: No, he's not OK, because it's not OK to tell a lie!
- Littlefoot: I'm sorry Petrie, but my grandparents told me to be careful around your uncle. Sometimes he uses his words to fool you.
- Petrie: No, you wrong! He not do that!
- Cera: I think Pterano is trouble and so are those other fliers he was with. My dad says you can tell a lot about somebody by the quality of his friends.
- Petrie: Oh yeah? Well - well then - me in trouble, 'cause my friends act like stinkbugs!
- [Flies away weeping]
- Ducky: Petrie, do not go - no, no, no!
- Cera: Agh, who cares? Maybe he should just go off with the rest of those stupid old fliers.
- Littlefoot: That's, what worries me.
- Ducky: Help! Let me down!
- Littlefoot: [Waking up and gasping] Ducky!
- Ducky: I am not a flier!
- [screams]
- [Petrie sees Pterano, Rinkus and Sierra fly in the sky and hear Ducky call for help]
- Petrie: Where she going?
- Littlefoot: Wherever your uncle and the other fliers are taking her.
- [Petrie gasps and then flies down angrily]
- Petrie: You wrong! Pterano never do-.
- Petrie's Mom: No Petrie. It's true, it is Pterano!
- Petrie's Mom: Oh no!
- [Petrie cries]
- Littlefoot: I told them where the flying rock is, why won't they go?
- Petrie: Oh, it's all my fault.
- Cera: You can say that again!
- Petrie: Why? If I say it again it only make me feel worser!
- Cera: That's the basic idea.
- [when Sierra finally lands on a rock ledge after kidnapping Ducky]
- Ducky: You're not very good at landing, are you?
- Sierra: Pipe down or I'll-.
- Pterano: Sierra! Show a little self control, will you?
- Sierra: Self control my tailbone! I've been putting up with that little whiney voice since we took off!
- [imitating Ducky]
- Sierra: No, no no! Yep, yep, yep! It's driving me *nuts* *nuts* *nuts*!
- Littlefoot: Well, at least we're all here. I mean - except for, Ducky.
- [Spike groans]
- Cera: Oh, poor Ducky.
- Petrie: Oh, poor Ducky.
- Ducky: Oh, poor me.
- Petrie: Ducky?
- Littlefoot and Cera: Ducky?
- Littlefoot: You're ok!
- Ducky: Ooh - yes, yes I am!
- [when Ducky has told her friends that Pterano and his friends were the cause of Ducky falling into an underground cave]
- Petrie: [crying] Me don't understand why Pterano so mean!
- Ducky: Do not feel bad, your uncle was not as mean as the other flyers.
- Petrie: He - he not?
- Ducky: Oh no, he was very sad when he dropped me, he was, he was.
- Cera: Can we go home now?
- Littlefoot: No Cera, what about the flyers? And that stone of cold fire?
- Cera: Oh that's just some dumb old rock. We have Ducky back, everything is fine.
- Ducky: Cera, what if the stone of cold fire really is magic? Then it would be bad if the flyers got it, it would, it would.
- Spike: Aha, aha.
- Cera: Oh all right - fine! But I still don't know how we're suppossed to catch up with them.
- Ducky: Do not worry Cera.
- [Sierra and Rinkus are trying to stop Littlefoot and his friends saving Ducky]
- Pterano: Stop this at once! Get a grip will you?
- Sierra: Hey, don't mind if we do.
- [Sierra and Rinkus grab onto each of Pterano's hands. Rinkus cackles and both flyers fly downwards with the captured Pterano]
- Pterano: Let go of me - how dare you...!
- Pterano: [Nighttime planning] Sierra! Settle down, will you!
- Sierra: Why should I? Anyway, what are we waiting for? We could be halfway to the smoking *mountain* by now!
- Pterano: Yess! With *half* the Great Valley right on our tails!
- Rinkus: Why would they come after *us*?
- Pterano: The young ones have told their parents that they have seen me. If we leave in a hurry, they might think that we are up to no good.
- Rinkus: But we *are* up to no good.
- Pterano: Noo-oo! I work for the *greater* good! My purpose is *noble*! They have never understood. But soon I will *prove* I am right! Until then, we must be careful. We will leave with the rest of the far-walkers once the Great Night Circle starts to shrink.
- Sierra: [huffs and grumbles]
- Rinkus: Hee hee - And then we will find the Stone of Cold Fire, yes?
- Pterano: Yesss! And I shall take my rightful place as leader of the herd. And I will rule over the most beautiful, fertile land in the world: The Great Valley!
- Pterano: I've never needed anyone/I'll go my way alone/I'll use my own intelligence to find that magical stone
- Sierra: Oh no, you ain't cuttin' us out, ya crazy...
- Rinkus: Please, my friends. We should not be fighting. We all want the same thing, yes? To gain the power of the stone, which we still must find, yes?
- Sierra: Yes, sorry. Guess I got a li'le bit outta line. After all, you are the leader.
- Pterano: Yes, I'm a Very Important Creature/Tremendesly brave and strong/I find that I'm frequently right when others are often wrong/Instead of arguing blindly/They should open their eyes and see/That the one who will bring theme paradise/ Is the Very Important Creature
- Sierra: He sure is hard on himself, ain't he?
- Pterano: I'm a fabulous, fearsome flyer/I handle life with finesse/When others say, "No, it can't be so"/my answer is always "yes"/I was born to be their saviour/That is my destiny/Why do they despise, not recognize/the truly fantastic me?
- [When Pterano sees Littlefoot]
- Petrie: Him my good friend. Cera, Ducky and Spike too.
- Pterano: Yes, yes. But, this is the one who claims he saw a stone of cold fire.
- Littlefoot: I guess you don't believe me either.
- Pterano: Oh no dear child, I believe you completely. I know how stubborn the other grown-ups can be - that's why I had to leave the herd you know, they simply had *no* vision!
- Pterano: The only way to convince yourself and everyone else, is, as you say, to go and find that stone.
- Littlefoot: [Nervously] Er... I wasn't serious - I was just - thinking out loud.
- [When Cera, Littlefoot, Petrie and Spike come up to the edge of a cliff]
- Cera: Oh great, we'll never catch those beakheads. It'll take us all day to climb down this side and up the other one.
- Littlefoot: Maybe we won't have to, look!
- [They see some vines that look like bridges]
- Littlefoot: Those vines look strong enough. I'll bet we could use them to walk across.
- Cera: Oh no, not this threehorn!
- Petrie: Cera scardeyegg, Cera-.
- Cera: Hey! I'm not a scardeyegg. But every time we sneak off and leave the great valley, we have to get across some giant ditch or pointy rocks or something.
- Littlefoot: Yeah?
- Cera: And somehow, the only way to do it is to use some tippy bouldor or rotten old log.
- Spike: Aha?
- Cera: And I always end up at the back of the line, falling off or getting chased by a sharptooth!
- Petrie: She do have a point.
- Littlefoot: So, what are you gonna do about it?
- Cera: Well, erm - this time, I'm gonna be the one who goes first. So if there's trouble, I won't be behind screaming my head off, no! This time, I'm gonna be safe.
- Littlefoot: Well, ok.
- [Ducky has fallen into a hole and Pterano, with Rinkus and Sierra following, has gone to see if she is all right]
- Pterano: Ducky, can you hear me? Come out now child, I promise we won't hurt you.
- Sierra: Well, must have been quite a drop.
- Rinkus: [Looking into the hole] Ooh er, I can't see a thing. It's way too dark in there.
- Pterano: Poor thing. So young, so full of life...
- Sierra: So what?
- Pterano: I was responsible for that little swimmer! And now I've lost her.
- Sierra: Well, Pterano. You should be used to this kind of thing by now.
- [He and Rinkus fly off]
- Littlefoot: We can't wait any longer, we have to save Ducky ourselves.
- Cera: Aren't you forgetting? The grown-ups said those smoking mountains are off-limits!
- Petrie: Yeah, they be real mad if we gone.
- Littlefoot: By the time they've stopped arguing - we could be back again! They wouldn't even notice!
- Cera: Well even if you *could* catch up to those fliers, then what will you do?
- Littlefoot: I - I don't know. But Grandpa told me to trust my instincts. And my instincts say we gotta do something!
