Inside the Area 51 level, the player can hear pagings over an intercom system for Lieutenant Deal, Doctor Francis, Captain Santiago, Doctor Lovering and Nurse Robinson. These refer to the members of the American rock band The Pixies (Kim Deal, Charles "Black Francis" Thompson IV, Joey Santiago, David Lovering) and producer/engineer Mike Robinson.
In each level there is a hidden piece of Swiss cheese. This was originally part of a plan to have a mega cheat activated when all the cheese was found, but it was scrapped in the final version.
In an attempt to boost sales, the game's promotional slogan billed the game as "The Sequel to Goldeneye."
The game's release date was delayed twice during it's production. It was originally intended to be released in December 1999. It was then delayed until the 10th of April 2000 because Rare didn't want to release an unfinished game. It was then delayed again until the 30th of June 2000 because there were still glitches that needed to be fixed.
When the game was still in production, Nintendo and Rare were planning on including a feature that let the gamer use the N64 Transfer Pak and a Game Boy Camera, which would let them superimpose their face onto the character they planned to use in multiplayer. This feature was ultimately scrapped from the final version.
