Dear Dennis Joseph,
in Kottayam Kunjachan, you created some truly memorable characters. Kunjachan is one of Mammuka's best roles, second only to Kuttapai in Sangham. He is at his best when he plays rowdy Christian characters.
The basic plot is not that different from Yojimbo or Fistful of Dollars. A likable gangster(Mammooty) arrives in a village to reform himself but soon becomes entangled in a petty rivalry between two Christian families.
The film was up to its neck in badass characters. Apart from Mamooty's Kunjachan, there was Sukumaran's Kora Chettan and Babu Antony as Jimmy Pappan.
I watched this film in the theater as a kid. And I will never forget the scene where Sukumaran makes a wicked entry in a jeep with his gang of brothers. It was so badass. The theater erupted in laughter when they drove past the priest who intended to stop them from beating up Jimmy Papan's gang.
I remember the director Suresh Babu saying in an interview that Hariharan, a maker of more sober films praised him after watching Kottayam Kunjachan.
Anyway, I hope you write more scripts Dennis Joseph. You could give some of the new generation writers a run for their money.
Best Regards, Pimpin.
