The lengths film lovers go
kwmurphy3 July 2001
I recently saw this film at the Midnight Sun Film Festival in Sodankyla Finland. It was in Finnish without English subtitles, but no matter. The blending of an epic folktale of the Kyrgyz along with the story of a man bringing the art of film to the remotest parts of one of the world's remotest places is stirring and inspiring enough in any language. The photography is in turn stunning and shocking, the story is romantic and brutally frank; it addresses an elemental human question? why do people go to astounding lengths to make contact with others like them? And it illustrates the power of the language of film. It is at once a film-lovers' and a traveler's tale. If you are either of these, see this film.
