Sex & Nudity

  • Mario can find a hidden item in Princess Toadstool's bedroom known as 'Princess Toadstool's ???" Some have speculated that it is, in fact, her underwear.
  • A busty female character's breasts jiggle when she is attacked, but this is more comical than explicit. Your character can find an (unseen onscreen) mystery item in the Princess' bedroom that she gets upset over, but we never find out what it is.

Violence & Gore

  • Typical Super Mario level violence. Minor enemies are hit and fade out of existence. You can be defeated but never "killed" outright, and can always continue.

Profanity

  • The North American version contains the line "You're a persistent bugger." The Wii Virtual Console European version (The game never saw a SNES version in Europe), however, replaces the offensive word with "pest."
  • Characters often give childish insults to one another, nothing explicit.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A bottle of what appears to be a bottle wine is shown on the table in the Sunken ship level in the game, it's unknown how it slipped past the Nintendo censorship.
  • One character named Jonathan Johnny holds a glass that looks like it contains an alcoholic beverage looking like wine but no characters drink or get drunk or anything like that.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Nothing major. Some scary enemies, but much of the game has a light-hearted comic atmosphere.
