Enjoyable sex comedy
Shokei18 November 2005
Also known as: Sweet Jacques (Canadian title) Highly enjoyable sex comedy. Sleeper of the 2002 Vancouver International Film Festival. Good insight into the sexual mores of several generations of modern Parisians. Director Thomas Bardinet and co-writer Gilles Marchand create diverse group of characters and toss them together, with lively and unpredictable results. Feisty lead performance in the role of Jacques by François Berléand (School of Flesh, 1998). Opening credits sequence in a pool worth price of admission. Great Paris locations. Who said the French couldn't make sex comedies that were both sexy and funny?

Painting The Clouds With Sinshine
writers_reign3 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
On paper this shouldn't work but on screen it's a delight and will surely stand up to further viewings. Unlikely as it may seem Francois Berleand is a babe magnet and the babes are, almost exclusively, young enough to be his daughters. He's also a gifted painter but though he hasn't got change of a match he gets by on charm and said babes are practically standing in line to pose for naked portraits, and a wife and twenty year old son in the background do nothing to deter his amorous progress. Micheline Presle is also on hand and makes a decent fist of stealing every scene in which she appears but the main thrust - which makes a half-hearted attempt at gravitas - involves two young sisters, one of whom is attracted to Berleand to the extent that she palms a would-boyfriend her own age off on her sister, who then gets the notion that Berleand is dangerous and sics their father, a cop, onto him as simultaneously the girl in supposed jeopardy teams up with Berleand's estranged son - yes, it's THAT kind of movie; they used to turn this stuff out by the yard in Hollywood before the accountants assumed control of the industry. If soufflé's are your thing you'll love this.
