It’s highly unlikely that you get to hear those desired words of appreciation from Mil: The mother-in-law (no offence please!). All hail to the benchmarks that our dear Mil’s set, the Bahu's somehow, always lag. And, the revolutionary Bahu's who pass the ‘Agni-Pariksha’ create history and are known as the ‘Tulsi’ of the Khandaan. But ‘Bahu’ Kareena seems to be really lucky. She got pregnant, partied, dressed up, went to shoots, gave interviews, hosted brunch and late night-outs, and see, her ‘Saas’ is all up with her praises! Sharmila Tagore expressed her joy with DNA about Kareena’s pregnancy: “Kareena has been so lovely. She has carried pregnancy her effortlessly and gracefully… kisi ki nazar na lag jaye. She is enjoying every moment of her pregnancy. She is dressing up, going out and being so natural and beautiful about it”. Sharmila Tagore is as excited as the parents-to-be.

Trinity Films, a franchise company tied to Eros Entertainment, helmed by the eminently enterprising Ajit Thakur, is all set to remake the 1971 mega-blockbuster Haathi Mere Saathi. Said to be the biggest hit of Rajesh Khanna's blockbuster career, Haathi Mere Saathi told the story of the intense relationship between a man and his pet elephant. The film broke all box office records and celebrated a 'diamond' jubilee (a 100-week run) in many centres.
Haathi Mere Saathi was directed by Tamil director M A Thurumugham. The remake will be directed by another Tamil director Prabhu Solomon.
However, it won't be easy to do a remake of a film where an animal plays a pivotal role, warns the chief of the censor board Pahlaj Nihalani.

Back in 1971, the Rajesh Khanna, Tanuja starrer Haathi Mere Saathi enthralled the audience on the big screen, now decades later we hear that Trinity Pictures, a franchise of Eros International will be attempting a modern telling of the story.
While the said film will not essentially be a remake of the 1971 film, it is learnt that it will instead be based on similar lines of friendship between a human and an animal. Further we hear that Haathi Mere Saathi will in fact be used only as a reference point and the remake will be a modern-day retelling that will be directed by South filmmaker, Prabhu Solomon.
Expected to go on floors later this year, the yet untitled film will feature a fresh story with more action than its predecessor.

Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan, recently saw the launch of its children's book titled as 'Geography with Bajrangi Bhaijaan'. Also present for the launch was Salman's father Salim Khan and at the event he spoke about the importance of education and how it helped him when he had nowhere to go.
When asked Salim Khan about how did they come up with the idea, he said, "My father used to tell us to study a lot which in turn helped me a lot because when I came to become an actor, main samajta tha ki Dilip Kumar ki dukaan bandh karva dung (I used to think that I could outdo Dilip Kumar). But nothing happened. I didn't have anywhere to go and at that time only my education helped me. How many ever of my films have been made, be it Haathi Mere Saathi, Zanjeer, Sholay or Trishul, education has been my biggest contributor.
Writers around the globe are acknowledged to be the key for a movie's success but it is pathetic that Bollywood has always given them a step motherly treatment. However the writers' pair, who changed the trend and demanded remunerations at par with stars, are unarguably the only star writer duo Salim Javed, who penned hit movies like Sholay, Deewaar, Zanjeer, Don, Trishul, Shakti, Mr. India etc.
Salim Khan in an interview said, "The reason why we demanded such high remunerations was because we were confident of our skills and wrote scripts that were hard-bound, a trend that was initiated by us."
Recalls Salim Khan, "When I used to assist distinguished writer Abrar Alvi (He wrote hit films like Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Chaudvin Ka Chand etc.) in the mid-50s, I always used to insist him to increase his remuneration standard reasoning writers are the backbone of the film and...

Draconian rules and laws related to the use of animals in Bollywood films have eventuated in a situation where producers are afraid to use animals in their films. One has come to know through reliable sources, that moves are afoot to change some of the rules of Animal Welfare Board Of India. The Censor Board's Chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani is all for changes in the rules related to animal protection. "If we continue to be over-sensitive about the use of animals, we'll soon stop using animals in our films completely. The rules regarding animal welfare are such that even if you have an electronic bird or a plastic snake in a scene, you have to announce that they are not real animals. This is like announcing that a character who has just died on screen is not really dead." Nihalani thinks it's time to change rules regarding the use of animals.

Some epic novels should never go into movie adaptations. Majestic magnificent and moving as it is, I am not too sure that Yann Martel’s novel was ever meant to be filmed. Trust the amazing Ang Lee to move into non-cinematic literary material and attempt visual manifestations of what are at most, images of a mind that believes Man is wedded in a holy communion with Nature.
On the surface Life Of Pi is the story of a young man’s epic journey with a magnificent tiger. A shipwreck(filmed with surprising tameness) snatches our hero Pi’s family away from him. We aren’t allowed to feel the boy’s mammoth sorrow and desolation at the bereavement. It’s really about survival. And well, you really need to quickly find ways to save your skin.

Long before Shah Rukh wiggled his eyebrows and raised his arms for a hug, and well before Salman built that body, there was the inimitable Rajesh Khanna. If the late 70s were Amitabh Bachchan’s one man industry, then the early 70s were Rajesh’s domain. Truly, the era of the first superstars in Hindi cinema has come to an end when Khanna passed away this past Wednesday.
Often called the Prince of Romance, Khanna offered up a gentler and tender side to romance that is sorely missed in today’s era. Born as Jatin Khanna on December 29th 1942, he was a keen lover of films since an early age. His rise to the top also seems like a struggler’s dream, as he was picked from thousands of applicants from the All India Talent Contest. It’s easy to see why. That twinkle in his eye, the tilted head,...

Mumbai, Nov 30: Realism is a far cry in new age Bollywood, says veteran lyricist-scriptwriter Javed Akhtar, who feels the depiction of the common man in today's films is misleading and the quality of songs and language has deteriorated quite a lot.
'Where's realism in today's films? Maybe yesteryear films were more dramatic in treatment, but they had more realism. They had a common man's depiction the way the common man was, unlike today's films,' Akhtar said in a group interaction.
The 67-year-old has been active in the Hindi film industry since 1964. He penned several successful scripts like 'Zanjeer', 'Deewar', 'Sholay', 'Haathi Mere Saathi', 'Seeta Aur Geeta' and 'Trishul' with his erstwhile writing partner Salim.
