Although this was a unique interpretation of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" at the time, it served as later inspiration for She's the Man (2006), which heavily borrows elements from the movie: setting it in high school with teenagers, using a sport as the catalyst for the plot, having the Viola character disguise herself as her twin brother rather than a completely separate identity, having the Duke Orsino character provide lessons in exchange for help with courting the Olivia character, and flipping the perceived weakness of femininity in the original play into strong support of women competing equally alongside men.
The riders that Andrea encounters on her home track are Jeremy McGrath, Travis Pastrana, and Steve Lamson, who were all professional motocross racers at the time. "Motocrossed" is the 26th Disney Channel Original Movie.
