Fond memories of the Saga of Andy Burnett
mburke67679 August 2002
My brother Tom and I "Loved Andy Burnett. The first episode taught us to leg wrestle which we called "Andy Burnett style". We did it incessantly. All the kids in our semi-rural neighborhood played Mountain man in the woods. I would like to catch the series the next time it's shown on the Disney channel. So would anyone who knows how to access Dissney listings please let me know? Mike B.

A Great Wholesome Adventure

It was in 1957 that I was introduced to the Disney-produced series about a young man moving west. The series was seen in glorious black and white as no one in my neighborhood owned a color television set (even the local bar got by with a trusty 21" black and white set). What I never forgot was anticipation of seeing where Andy and his Mountain men friends would go next. After the first installment, everyone in the neighborhood was into Indian wrestling with their legs. By the second week, the jingle "Andy's on the move, Andy won't rest, Andy Burnett is a traveling west" was heard at parks and on street corners. The singing by the cast (Andrew Duggan, Slim Pickens and Jeff York) may have been a little too much, but it did a touch of class to a group that bathed once a year. The conclusion was tearful and somewhat unfulfilling. Andrew Duggan fell victim to an Indian attack and died on screen. It was the greatest tragedy a 9 year old could face (at least Davy Crockett's death was not seen; you speculated he may have gotten away from the 5 thousand Mexicans). It's too bad that Disney Vault was taken off the Disney channel. Andy Burnet would work well today. I'm just very happy that I was able to tape the series in the summer of 2001.

Please help me if you can

This was ran on the Disney Channel a few years back and my children fell in love with it. They have wished many times that we would be able to obtain a copy. I have 3 children and they would each like a copy. Since they enjoy westerns, comedies, and have Indian heritage they thought this movie was great. The saga of Andy Burnett is a show that all ages can enjoy. We like it because as a Christian family we don't have to worry about the contents of this movie and because we can all enjoy it together. I am interested in finding this on VHS or DVD. Can anyone help? I can be contacted at meyfamsing@netins.net Please contact me as soon as possible. I would be interested in using the movies as Christmas gifts if they are available. Thank you.
