“Knuckles,” the live-action/animated spinoff series currently streaming on Paramount+ and featuring the titular red Echidna warrior (voiced by Idris Elba), kicks things off with an amusing ’90s throwback opening title sequence. We encounter markered animations (done by Picturemill) of the main characters, as they jump across the labels of mixed CDs in a binder and roll by the credits, to the tune of “The Warrior” by Scandal featuring Patty Smyth.
It’s all part of Knuckles getting introduced to the “earth music” of his new protégé, dim-witted deputy sheriff Wade Whipples (Adam Pally), while trying to teach him the ways of Echidna-style fighting.
This marks the first series for Knuckles, based on Sega’s popular Sonic the Hedgehog video game franchise, which takes place between the events of the films “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” which introduced Elba. It was created by John Whittington (“Sonic the Hedgehog 2...

As the film landscape’s obsession with cinematic universes continues – hell, there’s even a horror-themed Poohniverse in development – Paramount has its (speedy) sights set on expanding its Sega-assisted Sonic-verse between big-screen sequels. Enter Paramount+ spin-off miniseries Knuckles – another live-action/CGI hybrid production, like the big-screen outings – arriving before this year’s Sonic 3 (set to introduce Keanu Reeves as Shadow the Hedgehog), expanding the family-friendly franchise with a show focused around the Idris Elba-voiced Echidna.
Die-hard fans looking for mythology deep-dives and tidbits setting up the Blue Blur’s next instalment should, however, temper their expectations. There is a famous quotation “When truth becomes legend, print the legend”. It's often attributed to John Ford but is something that can really apply to Odyssey Entertainment's forthcoming release of the Mongolian feature “The Warrior Princess” detailing the real-life figure of Khutulun. The story is based on a novel by its producer and was one of the most popular Mongolian releases of the year. It's time to take a look and see if it lives up to the reputation of its heroine.

If you like TV action, especially of the martial arts variety, one series you have to watch is the HBO Max historical action-drama "Warrior." The series is based on the writings and ideas of Bruce Lee, and it centers on Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji), who arrives in 1870s San Francisco from China in search of his sister Mai Ling (Dianne Doan). Ah Sahm joins a local tong, one of Chinatown's criminal gangs, only to discover that his sister has risen to the top of another. Between territorial rivalries between the tongs, local authorities, and an increasingly irate Irish community, there are ample opportunities for high-stakes conflict.
Koji is a charismatic lead, and the series boasts film-caliber action choreography. Season 2 wrapped up in late 2020, focusing on the San Francisco riot of 1877 and its aftermath. That conflict will inevitably shake Chinatown to its core, the stakes have never been higher, and the wait has never been longer.

Depeche Mode, the pioneering ‘80s U.K. technopop band, has long had a strong following in Los Angeles — thanks to their exposure on local alternative stalwart Kroq — and now they’re proving a favorite of film and TV creative executives.
The group, consisting of co-founders Martin Gore and vocalist Dave Gahan after the death of keyboardist Andrew Fletcher in May 2022, is on a roll following its 2020 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where they were introduced by Charlize Theron, who called them “the soundtrack of my life.”
Depeche Mode’s new Mute/Columbia Records album, “Memento Mori,” comes out March 24, their first since 2017’s “Spirit” and 15th overall, which will be followed by a year-long tour that launches March 23 in Sacramento and includes a show at L.A.’s Kia Forum on March 28 and four concluding area shows in December, two apiece at Kia and Crypto.com Arena.

Asif Kapadia, the Oscar-winning director of “Amy” and “Senna,” is set to direct a new documentary film called “2073” that will look to the future and the challenges that will face the world 50 years from now.
Inspired by “La Jetée,” the classic, experimental science fiction film from 1962 directed by Chris Marker, Kapadia’s movie is a thriller looking at a dystopian future set in 2073. “La Jetée” was about a time traveler who tries to change history after an apocalyptic and nuclear World War III. The film was constructed entirely of black and white still photos and served as much of the premise for Terry Gilliam’s sci-fi “12 Monkeys.”
“I want to make an epic about the state of the world, using elements of science fiction as a lens through which to examine the huge questions we are facing as a species and hopefully find solutions, before it’s too late,...

Neon, Double Agent and the U.K.’s Film4 are partnering on the documentary “2073,” from “Amy” director Asif Kapadia.
A vague description of the film indicates that it will “tackle some of the biggest challenges imperiling our future.” The synopsis continues: “Kapadia’s decision to create a genre-bending thriller set in a dystopian future was inspired by Chris Marker’s iconic 1962 featurette ‘La Jetée’ about a time traveler who risks his life to change the course of history and save the future of humanity.”
The companies will co-finance and executive produce the project with Kapadia and George Chignell producing. Davis Guggenheim, Nicole Stott, and Jonathan Silberberg will act as executive producers for Concordia Studio alongside Riz Ahmed’s Left Handed Films.

Being the fourth collaboration between Kim Sung-soo and Jung Woo-sung, after “Beat” (1997), “City of The Rising Sun” (1999) and “Musa The Warrior” (2001), and featuring an all star cast, “Asura: The City of Madness” was one of the most anticipated films of the year. However, and in contrast to the global rule that wants films that create much buzz to lack quality, this time, the hype was absolutely justified.

Religion plays a significant role in the lives of the characters on Game of Thrones. The people of the North largely worship the old gods, and the Iron Islanders devote themselves to the Drowned God. But by far, the most prevalent religion in Westeros is The Faith of the Seven. In the series, radical worshipers known as The Faith Militant force Cersei to take her infamous Walk of Shame before she destroys them all by blowing up the Sept of Baelor. However, for most people, worshiping the Seven is a way to bring comfort and order to their lives. Although the Seven is actually a single deity, it's one that has seven faces, each with their own defining attribute. They are The Father, The Mother, The Maiden, The Crone, The Warrior, The Smith, and The Stranger. Fan theories have long posited that there are correlating characters for each attribute.

It’s the perfect time of year for a scary movie about killer flu wiping out a population. Simply named Flu, this is a typical disaster movie, South Korean style, from The Warrior writer-director Sung-su Kim. However, it contains the drama within the boundaries of the district of Bundang, the suburb of Seoul – supposedly one of South Korea’s wealthiest and highest developed areas – so it has a unique identity as a piece of film-making from the region, even though it may follow the same plot-lines of larger epics. It also presents an interesting insight into social and political attitudes of the region.
After a container containing illegal immigrants is found with just one survivor in Bundang, the residents quickly start to become ill and infected with a strange and deadly, flu-like virus that spreads as an airborne disease. The city with half a million people is sealed off, its...

Also featuring Hong Kong actress Cecilia Chung, who plays the seductress, with Shawn Dou and Lisa Lu, the film, which takes place in 1930s Shanghai, is expected to open in limited release on November 9th, 2012.

Another day, another remake (or a re-adaptation). "I said I truly love you." This one comes from China, a remake of the 1988 movie Dangerous Liaisons, which was an adaptation of Choderlos de Laclos's 1782 French romance novel of the same name (Les Liaisons dangereuses). Starring in this is the stunning Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Horsemen, The Grandmasters) as Madame de Tourvel, with Jang Dong-gun (Tae Guk Gi, The Warrior's Way) as Xie Yifan, also featuring Cecilia Chung, Shawn Dou and Lisa Lu. It actually looks surprisingly tense, and seductive, give this a watch. Watch the official Us release trailer for Jin-ho Hur's Dangerous Liaisons, in high def from Apple: 1930s Shanghai: the glamorous, tumultuous "Paris of the East" whose salons, streets and bedrooms frame this Chinese adaptation of the French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Aging socialite Mo Jieyu (Cecilia Cheung) still...

Sngmoo Lee’s “The Warrior’s Way” is finally opening in limited release next month, but it took a while to get there. We started reporting on the film way back in 2008, back when Zhang Ziyi was still playing the female lead (before being replaced by Kate Bosworth), and it was still called “Laundry Warrior”. Two and a half years later, and the film has finally seen the light of day. Speaking to Movieline, “Way” co-star Geoffrey Rush explains why it took the film so long to finally surface. I think in post-production the financial crises hit, and the budget kind of went a bit wonky because of the amount of CGI that was needed. We shot it late-2007 into early-2008. I’m glad it’s seeing the light of day because I think Sngmoo Lee, the director-writer, has written a very elegiac kind of piece, even though it has...

John Woo’s dreams of staging the greatest aerial battles ever filmed over China is apparently going to be put on hold. At least, if this article by 24Fps is correct, which has the “Red Cliff” auteur setting aside his model toy planes for some swordswoman action with Michelle Yeoh and South Korean actor Woo-sung Jung (”Musa: The Warrior”). And oh yeah, John Woo will also be getting all Will Smith on us and is casting his daughter Angeles Woo, who according to Woo’s longtime producing partner Terrence Chang, will easily embody the role, since she’s been studying martial arts for the role of a female assassin. According to 24Fps, Woo has announced that “The Swordswoman’s World” will be his next movie instead of the “Flying Tigers” movie he had announced earlier, where Woo promised the aforementioned “greatest aerial battles ever filmed over China”. And I...

Director: Ji-woon Kim. Review: Tim Irwin. This movie is as awesome as it sounds. That's a tall order indeed, especially since the movie the title references is often considered one of the greatest westerns ever. But now we have The Good, the Bad, the Weird, and it most certainly stands out on its own. One of the first scenes is an amazing and elaborately shot train robbery. Here we are introduced to our three main characters. We have Park Chang-Yi, the Bad, who's a terribly evil person. He's played by Byung-hun Lee, who was also in some other great Korean films like Jsa and Three...Extremes (only a third Korean, I guess). We're also introduced to the Good, a straight up cowboy bounty hunter, pretty much Clint Eastwood but looking slightly more Korean. The actor, Woo-sung Jung, was the star of Musa. Finally we get the Weird, a slightly crazy train robber and petty thief,...
