masterpiece of worthless film-making
talel_bj29 September 2006
a friend of mine bought this (very cheaply) and decided to give it to me as a birthday present. i thought i'd never watch it 'cause i knew it was a joke and the cover of the DVD looked pathetic, but then my friends and i got really bored and watched it. from start till finish! i know quite an accomplishment but it really is a masterpiece. it's hard to describe. you should see it, it's a real lesson on what people are capable of when they believe they're creative and smart and really aren't. The "acting" is sous-terrain (you can actually see the "leading lady" laugh on some occasions, she's definitely the worst). the "story" is to stupid to be summed up and really everything in this film sucked. please, pay special attention to "the sheriff". the guy is an adult and therefor has absolutely no excuse to be involved in this. he's extremely bad as well. whatever it did have some hilarious moments. check it out, haha

WHAT IS THAT???
Grizzly-126 April 2001
I watched this movie. To the end. And that was really not easy. It is so boring, bad played and in nearly every detail stolen from "BLAIR WITCH PROJECT" that you can't believe the makers take this serious. Even harder to believe, is how this "product" made it onto VHS and DVD.

So, if want to see a horror-movie, just watch "Scream", but if you want to laugh out loud and have a good time, watching some kids running through the woods screaming at each other and showing of their inability, watch dark area.

don't waste your time with this movie... it honestly sucks!
christoph-guettel31 October 2005
Please! Do not waste any money on this movie. It really is nothing more than a boring German Blair Witch ripoff made by some high school kids. I couldn't finish watching it, and usually I like watching all kinds of B-movies. How on earth could they find a distributor for it?!!! Funny however: Check out Wikipedia for "dark area". The guy who wrote the entry must be completely out of his mind. Maybe he got loads of money from the producers. Money that should have been spend on actors, camera and editing. Even that wouldn't have helped, since there is absolutely no interesting idea behind this film. Unfortunately "dark area" has already gotten too much attention. Please, director, producer and author of this movie, STOP making movies like that...you are not doing yourself a favor. The world would be a better place without this film.

The worst thing I've ever seen...
bad_karma-213 October 2001
THE DARK AREA is actually nothing more than a little video, made by some school kids. The story is uninteresting and stupid (and mostly stolen from the much better BLAIR WITCH PROJECT), acting is way, WAY past "bad", lighting is poor and there is zero atmosphere. Well, you can't actually blame those people. they made their little movie, and the local cinema showed it so friends and family could tell them how great it was despite the fact that it sucks.

So far so good.

The majority of the world would never have heard anything about THE DARK AREA and that would have been no loss. But some small backyard company decided to publish it and make it accessible to the public. Those guys are to blame for DARK AREA is not a real movie (see above).

If you see the DARK AREA DVD (or video, or whatever) avoid it at all cost. It is not worth a penny !

Not worth watching! Every Second is wasted!
kabeile14 August 2010
Oh my god!!! I can't even recall, how i managed it, to watch this "movie" (in fact it's a home-video, just less entertaining) from its totally stupid beginning to the even more stupid (if possible...) ending! I think the only reason i watched it, was because my mother had some of the people involved in this shameful production as pupils in grammar-school, bought the VHS one day and gave it to me. "Look!", she said. "This is the movie my former pupils have made..." DAMN - I SHOULD HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

There are some facts about this disgusting piece of "cinema" that you have to know. First of all: THIS IS A SCHOOL PROJECT!!! And i don't mean a project of a film or acting-school or something. It's a high-school-project! And believe me: This is already the only positive aspect that can be said about this film. A bunch of 18-year-old friends having a good time with their VHS-Camcorder filming a little "movie" at school. But this is the point, where this thing should have ended! But after-wards the families and friends of this kids told them, that they had made a great movie... So the kids lost every touch with reality and tried to sell their little school-project to real DVD-Companies, which actually worked!!! I can' t even imagine what the company that distributed this piece of crap had in mind?!?! Perhaps it was the idea of making some money with a film that actually didn't cost anything! Which leads us to fact two: This kiddie-school-project gains money! But it's not even worth the few cents that the production of a DVD or VHS costs!!! And by the way: It's hilarious to make a commercially sold DVD out of a VHS-Camcorder-filmed Homevideo... Fact Three: Don't believe the last two reviews, which rated this film with 9 or 10 stars. These accounts are fake!!! As you can see in their review-history they only posted this one review and i am sure, that these are either fake accounts of some of the "film"-makers or of the production company, which have only one goal: To mislead potential viewers or worse: People who would even buy this crap! Fourth: Don't get me wrong - I'm a big fan of B,C or even D-Category Horror-Films. But this "film" is so bad, that there are not enough letters in the alphabet to name a category!!! Every second that you spend with watching this "movie" is wasted time. It's surely the worst "movie" of all time, because it must be compared with commercial movies, as it is professionally sold and distributed (even if it is written, filmed, acted and produced even lower than amateur-level!).

Last: DON'T WATCH!!! And even more important: DON'T BUY!!!!!

Exceeded all my expectations
Kalium20 March 2001
When I stumbled on this movie at my local video store I thought: "Oh great ! Another Blair witch rip-off !" I rented it anyway (who doesn't love to make fun of bad movies) and had to find out... that I was wrong ! "The Dark Area" doesn't try to "fool" the audience. It ain't some pseudo-documentary-footage. The story begins at a police station where a cop is trying to interrogate a young student (Now, that sounds to me like that awful Blair Witch-sequel, doesn't it ) called Tobias. But the poor guy won't answer, so the cop does the only thing left to do and turns on a VCR, confronting Tobias with some footage that shows what actually happened. Now the movie turns into a version of TBWP, complete with its blurred images and rustling sound. To put it another way: Blair Witch fans will feel just like back home. The footage itself shows Tobias and four of his friends on an expedition into some abandoned woods, trying to find and film a rare breed of snakes. Of course they find "something" else... As I said, I had to change my mind after seeing this film. "The Dark Area" is a very clever and eventful low-budget movie with some of the most eerie scenes I have ever seen (The first "audible encounter" with the killer) and a great non-documentary-ending that came right out of the blue. Better than Blair Witch Project
Blair-Witch-66626 February 2001
THE DARK AREA is a great, very intensive and suspenseful scary movie. Four reasons why it is better than "The Blair Witch Project": (1) It has a classic Whodunnit-Plot, (2) young and talented actors, (3) a cool and frightening killer, (4) a great twist-in-the-end. A good and scary mixture of "Scream" and "Blair Witch Project".
