Tough Anime chicks in spaceships

"Gall Force 2: Destruction" carries on the tale of the war between the Solenoids and Paranoids first told in "Gall Force." A conflict that, according to the first film, eventually gave birth to the human race.

I saw this title over ten years ago when it was first released, and was entertained by all the action. The film borrows some story concepts from other well known sci-fi offerings, but has also been the inspiration for other shows as well. Any respectable sci-fi fan'll note the fighter launch sequences here compared to those of Babylon-5, which was produced some time after this film.

The Gall Force saga tells of a race of beings who are by all accounts human females, called the Solenoids. The second installment focuses on a grand strategy by the Solenoid high command to win the conflict once and for all. It's a strategy that will thwart another plan devised by allied operatives. Trouble ensues, and our heroines go off to confront the dangers therein

A character from the first film is brought back to good effect to further the story. The rest of the characters are all from Anime central casting (the knowing leader, the cute girl, the tough girl, etc.), but do well to move the story along, and are entertaining.

Be warned, like a lot of Anime this is not a cartoon for children. There's cartoon nudity and cartoon bloodshed, as per the first film. Much of which is aimed at late high school and college age males and older, so any reasonably mature young adult male should be OK with it.

In my personal opinion this installment is the best of the series, though much of that could based on the fact that this was the first I saw in the series. Even so there seems to be a higher quality of art and overall production value in this film. This verse its predecessor which, though longer, is a bit tiresome and comparatively somewhat lacking in the art department.

Lots of spaceships exploding, lots of dogfights, lots of gun play, a good story, and good plot. "Gall Force 2: Destruction" isn't a deep film, but it should entertain any anime fan. And if you do see it, do yourselves a favor and watch it with the original Japanese dialog. The American actors dubbing the film just aren't that good.

Enjoy :-)
