The 2021 Latin Grammy nominations came with some expected nominees and pleasing surprises, and a lot of artists got key noms that could help them make history at these awards. Let’s take a look at five artists who could leave their mark in unprecedented ways.
SEEWhich albums have won the most Grammys? The biggest of all-time from Santana to Billie Eilish Camilo
Colombian pop superstar Camilo is the biggest nominee this year with 10. Among these are five general field nominations: “Vida de Rico” for Record and Song of the Year and its parent album “Mis Manos” for Album of the Year. He also has two additional noms for his work on “Amén” and “Dios Así Lo Quiso,” both by his father-in-law Ricardo Montaner. If Camilo manages to win the three general categories on one night, he’ll become the first artist to pull this off since 2011, when Calle 13 swept the Grammys.

Colombian singer-songwriter Camilo dominated the announcement of the 2021 Latin Grammy Awards nominations, garnering 10, including nods in all three top categories — album of the year (for “Mis Manos”), record of the year (for “Vida de Rico” and “Amen”) and song of the year (for “Vida de Rico” and “Dios Así Lo Quiso”).
Also faring well with multiple nods were Dominican artist Juan Luis Guerra with six, Spanish rapper C. Tangana with five and Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny with four.
Most of these top-nominated artists have enjoyed multiple trips to the podium in previous years— especially Guerra, a 20-time Latin Grammy winner. C. Tangana and Bad Bunny have won twice before. But with his staggering 10 nominations this year, Camilo comes into the ceremony only ever having won once before, for last year’s best pop song (his acceptance appearance is pictured above).
The 22nd annual show airs on Univision Nov. 18 live at 8 p.

Greek-born French filmmaker Costa-Gavras has gone after "isms"—fascism, Nazism, imperialism—in vivid political melodramas like Z and Missing, as well as less accomplished, though watchable, movies like Music Box and Amen. The director's latest tackles capitalism, and the title, Capital, is essentially the only apt thing about it. A tacky corporate noir that makes you long for the leanness of Margin Call, or even the clumsy theatrics of Arbitrage, the film revolves around Marc, a Parisian executive (French-Moroccan comic Gad Elmaleh) unexpectedly named CEO of a bank. Much to the irritation of the board of directors, Marc proves to be an uncontrollable S.O.B., all too willing to follow the lead of the story's r...

One hardly knows what to expect of a film which comes with such an ambitious and ambiguous title. It is far from being a masterpiece on world peace (as it likes to promote itself), neither is it a chronicle of world history. But for whatever it is worth, if one takes it with a pinch of salt, it provides two hours of wholesome entertainment. It shouldn’t be written off, merely for its attempt at being a historical film with decent production value.
Gandhi to Hitler presents a contrast between Hitler’s violence that brought about the fall of Germany and its people, and Gandhi’s non-violent means that won India independence. The focus of the film, however, is on the life of Hitler during his final days in Berlin. The part of history that the film has chosen...

While Costa-Gavras has rightfully earned his place among the great filmmakers thanks to films like "Z" and "Missing," let's be honest for a moment, he hasn't really resonated on the arthouse front since "Amen." in 2002 (and we'll forget "Mad City" ever happened). But it looks like the helmer is coming back in a big way as the stars seem to be lining up for his next project, the topical financial world drama "Le Captial." In case you missed it Vincent Cassel is already on board and Variety reports that Mathieu Kassovitz (who starred in "Amen.") and Gabriel Byrne have…...

A little late this week, mainly because of my own random b.s. that one goes through when attempting to juggle too many things at once. Try not to do it kids, because it means a Hulu article gets sidetracked a bit. A ton of stuff was added since I last was here, but unlike last week’s where I focused on 10 specific films that weren’t in the Collection, this time it’s a bunch of familiar (and not so) faces, be it in their great Eclipse sets or in Criterion’s own pantheon.
A huge thanks to who have already used this link to enjoy their own Hulu Plus and in turn keeping this series of articles up and running. We can always use the help, so please sign up using that specific link. Every little bit does keep this nice and polished. But enough about that. You...

- Following the critical and commercial shortfall of his self-remake Funny Games, famed Austrian filmmaker Michael Haneke will return to Europe for his next film Das Weisse Band (The White Tape). Shooting is set to begin in June and throughout the summer, with additional shooting in the winter. Set in a countryside school in pre-Nazi Germany 1913, the film will examine the educational system that paved the way for Hitler’s fascist machinations and its subsequent indoctrination of a generation. This marks Haneke’s first German production since the original Funny Games in 1997. Obvious subject matter for the minimalist-auteur, Band continues his fascination with human cruelty and society, here in the form of ritual punishment and subjugation. One has to wonder how Haneke’s predilection for long, bordering on pretentious, static shots and aversion to a musical score will translate to a project of this scope. The film will most likely
