The Old Goat

Dorothy Devore and James Harrison are eloping, but her father, judge Lincoln Plumer, has walked out with the marriage license, tickets, and traveler's checks, so with many a slip, they attempt to retrieve them.

It's one of the Christie Brothers' well-timed series of gags, including a couple of traffic cops who have have their motorcycles stolen, and Babe London and Billy Bletcher trying to get divorced in Plumer's court. There's a little to much concentration on the mechanical gags for my taste - the Christie's' slapstick shorts had neither the characters of Hal Roach's comedy factory, nor the absurdities of Sennet's, but if comics getting abused is your taste, you won't be disappointed by the speed of this one.
