Hughes history of his homeland
Prismark1010 September 2013
Larrikins and Wowsers.

This could be the key to the understanding of the Australian psyche according to writer, art critic and television presenter Robert Hughes who returned to his home country to make a documentary examining Australia, its history and modern existence.

The making of the series was marred by a road accident that Hughes was involved in.

Hughes makes a lucid, fascinating and an always interesting account of a country he left behind and which he wanted to be reacquainted with.

He tours the country, recounts his own history growing up in Oz and talks to people in order to understand a country that wishes to leave its colonial past behind and be the face the future as the new millennium begins.

That future is not as optimistic or open minded considering the calibre of some of Australia's recent politicians. Well that's wowsers for you.
