The Lou Costello Jr. Youth Center was founded in memory of Lou Costello's son, Lou Jr., who drowned before his first birthday in 1943. As of 2005, the youth center was still in operation in East Los Angeles.
This short was shown in theaters as a public service announcement to encourage the establishment of similar youth centers as a way of reducing juvenile delinquency.
