The absolute first thing you'll notice about this game is how it surpasses all PlayStation 2 gaming graphics (yes, all of them!). The backgrounds are real, three dimensional places, rather then being several different backgrounds that shift to give it a three dimensional feeling.

The second thing you'll notice is that this game is HUGE. It has nearly four times more than its N64 counterpart, especially when it comes to characters.

The third thing you'll find is that all the characters generally have the same moves. Almost nothing has changed, although some characters have new moves that are more powerful than their old ones.

The music is excellent! You will not believe how good the orchestrated musical remixes are of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 64, Star Fox, Star Fox 64, and Kirby's All-Star. Nor will you believe how well the guitar remixes sound of Metroid, F-Zero, and more! If there is a soundtrack, it is a must have.

The only disappointing thing about this game is the frustration factor. Near-impossible enemies at level nine seem to "cheese" more than fight. Their attacks overpower your "smash" attacks, which we know should not happen.

Besides that, this is one of Nintendo's BEST EVER and a game for all to enjoy! It's violent to a point. Instead of knocking out your opponent or even killing him, you must only knock them off the battlefield.

So it's obvious. Get the game if you loved the original Super Smash Bros.! You'll hardly be disappointed.

Super Smash Bros Melee is the best fun you will have on a Gamecube. It features the best of Nintendo as playable fighters or even items and trophies. You start with characters such as Super Mario, Link, Pikachu, and of course, Ness. As I said, there are lots of items like Mr Saturn, Bob-Ombs and even the iconic hammer. You can unlock more content (like characters, trophies and stages) and is easily one of the best multiplayer experiences of ALL TIME. Even the music is memorable, and, with a fun event match mode (exclusive to Melee), what can go wrong?! You will marvel at the characters and even be shocked at what characters you can unlock! This game is easily in my top 50 of best games ever and is essential for any Nintendo fan of any age.

When it comes to multiplayer "party" games, fighting sims have usually been relegated to the older audiences for games such as Mortal Combat or other more graphic experiences. With "Super Smash Bros. Melee" for the Nintendo Gamecube, however, the contestants are none other than the colorful characters from Nintendo's cannon of crazy caricatures participating in some cartoonish smash-and-dash.

Besides the tight controls and great visuals/locals, the true hallmark of this game is the attributes of each individual character, which provides "something for everyone". If you just like mashing people? Go for Donkey Kong. Love to shoot a bow & wield a sword? Then Link is your character. The list could go on and on, as each character has abilities that make them unique to the game and allow for almost endless combinations.

Overall, "Melee" is perhaps the most engaging multiplayer GCN game ever created (with the possible exception of Double Dash). Literally hours of fun can be had pummeling your friends with Nintendo's characters and earning the bragging rights to go along with it.

SSBM is a fighter game of different proportions. It features four player action and some great 1 player modes as well. Adventure mode allows you to fight enemies in their preferred stages and explore stages not available in versus mode. Event Matches, Collecting Trophies, and so much more add to the games brilliance. This game has great symphony music as well, all accurate to some of our favorite tunes from Mario to The Legend of Zelda. That reminds me of one of the games biggest features, the characters! Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Samus, Link, Zelda/Shiek, and at least 10 others, all with unique attacks and specialties are available. The stages to choose from are also limitless. In simplest terms, there's about 1 or more stages for every character. All different. There is just so much to do in the game and its so easy to get into. SSBM goes down as the greatest fighter game of all time. It may even THE greatest game of all time.

Forget the Pc, Dreamcast and XBox. There's two consoles: GameCube and PlayStation2. The XBox is meant to make Bill Gates richer, the Dreamcast is short on games and is no longer being given games anyway, and the PC games come in three choices: 2-D, blocky or educational. The PlayStation2: great variety, online gaming and DVD player. GameCube: old reliable Nintendo favourites and extremely varied, original ideas. Just look at Super Mario Sunshine, Animal Crossing, or, a favourite, Super Smash Bros. Melee. Unfortunately brought up the wrong way, SSBM is not about "let's see who beats whom" when talking about whether Mario can cream Samus, or is Pikachu stronger than Fox. Because even if you match yourself against a computer, a compter versus a computer, or a human versus a human, you'll always get different results. No, the reason for this game is the features. 4-player versus. Adventure mode full of variety. Collecting trophies of Nintendo trademarks(not literally, I mean characters and things created by Nintendo), and much much more. The unknown of many things, like what Pokemon will be in that PokeBall, who will win this fight, is a bomb in this crate, and many other things make this game a sure win. It's meant o be played to have fun, not to settle arguments. And one of the reasons it's a hit: there's a character for everyone.

Super Smash Bros.Melee is reason enough to pick up A Nintendo GameCube.

The game takes everything that made the first Super Smash Bros a success and just add that extra factor to make it a game worthy of any video game library.

The game feature the same roster as classic characters from Nintendo such as Mario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Star Fox and many more as well as new characters to chose from to add to extra game play.

You can unlock more characters as you play through single player and it just keeps you going for more.

The game graphics are excellent it shows how well the graphics on the Game Cube can bring the game to life and it does a impressive job along with some superb stages based on the character's respective game series which is a great plus.

The sound and music in the game are nothing short of awesome because the game gives you that great feel of the first years of Nintendo.

The controls work flawless and gives you the feel of being in the game.

The game play is where the game really shines with a roster of characters this is one fighting game you and your friends will spend hours playing trying to beat each other.

Overall Super Smash Bros.Melee just proves that a sequel can hold up as well as the first game in the series this is one game you must add to your collection

This game brought a lot of my friends together for a period of time. Those who didn't play fighting games (or even video games at all) were more than willing to participate in our ramshackle tournaments with prizes one might win in a bingo hall (like 5 bucks or a six-pack of Pepsi; I think one time we gave away garden-flavored cream cheese to one winner... LOL). This game provided a lot of memories for me that I'll hold dear for the rest of my life. God, I miss it so much! Glad I still have my copy -- if only I had all the friends with free time to recreate those days. I guess nostalgia will have to suffice.

OK, to start off, the graphics are just about perfect in this game. everything has beautiful detail. next, there's so much awesome music; and whats cool is that its all based on previous Nintendo games. the game play is very good in this one, it has a great system. one of my favorite features is all the characters; many people to choose from. and there are also tons of impressive stages to fight on. and the modes, such as classic and adventure, are all very well done. One final note: as you play the game, you will collect more and more trophies of characters that have appeared throughout Nintendo's history. so, all i can say is definitely go get this game; its fantastic in so many ways.

Visually stunning, fun and cool , smash brothers melee is like an interactive celebration of nintendos gaming know how.

Its widely regarded as the gamecubes best game and i cant argue with that: few other games on the console can match melee's frantic sense of fun, its longevity , its amazing soundtrack and its opportunity to let you beat up jiggly puff (come on i cant be the only one whos thought of doing that).

If your a die hard fan of Nintendo this will be a dream come true- if not its will be a the most fun you'll ever have on a game cube .Either way you'll love smash brothers melee.

This game still remains famous to this day, WAY better than that horrific Smash Bros Ultimate game because of its plot. Don't mind Kirby's SUPER DUPER ANNOYING Star KO. It'll make you cringe.

I only did 'cause I thought this game was gonna be easy, BUT BOY WAS I WRONG!

PROS:

A nice line-up roster of characters.

A really catchy soundtrack. (My personal favorites are Icicle Mountain, Menu 1, Metal Battle, Multi-Man Melee 1, Opening, Tournament 1, and Yoshi's Island 64.)

The exclusive stages that are not available in Ultimate, such as Icicle Mountain, Mushroom Kingdom (The layout is different in Melee, trust me), Mute City (The layout is also different in Melee, kinda like Port Town Aero Dive), and the most iconic one, Poke Floats.

The Teen ESRB rating (look, I just think it's cool, okay? I'm not a nerd, trust me.)

CONS:

I think how it's REALLY annoying how tap jump is in this game, and the worst part is, YOU CAN'T TURN IT OFF!! And also, if you run to the ledge, you just fall off without some sort of stop or something, WHICH IS VERY ANNOYING!!

Some of the unlockables are EXTREMELY frustrating. For example, to unlock Mewtwo, you have to get a total vs. Play time of 20 FREAKING HOURS!! SERIOUSLY?! I'd rather go touch grass rather than playing this game for almost a full day. You know what, I'll even tell you the cheesy way to unlock Mewtwo: Play an endless match of lightning melee, pick someone you're actually good with, and if you have 2 or more controllers, plug those in right now, it'll spare some time. Then pick a random stage like Poke Floats, and then drop the controllers and walk away for the whole day. Oh, and I also recommend that you turn off your TV but leave the GameCube system on, it might spare the power bill, maybe. And there you go, you have unlocked Mewtwo the cheesy way.

The event matches FREAKING SUCK!! You AT LEAST HAVE to be a pro player to complete every single one of them!! And also, this genuine cry for help. I still can't complete all the event matches and yet I sort of hate this game because of those stupid events and I'm still playing this gosh dang game.

So what do I think of this game? Screw this game, go Play Ultimate instead.

Mario and the gang have returned for another bout. Only this time, they have new moves, items, places to battle... and of course, several new Nintendo stars to battle with.

The characters have never looked better. There's a lot of nice texture work here--you can see even very minor details like the stitching on Mario's overalls or the scales on Bowser's skin. The game constantly runs at 60 FPS, or frames per second (really, really smoothly), and load time is anywhere from one-and-a-half seconds to almost none at all.

Thankfully, Nintendo has not decided to edit the sound effects for the English version, unlike what they did for the first title. (Grr...) The music is very nicely done. Most of the tunes are orchestrated, and they even included the DK Rap from Donkey Kong 64!

Controls are also very similar to the first game. Players jump with the Y Button, use regular attacks with the A button, use special attacks with the B button, shield with the L or R buttons, and grab other players with the awkwardly placed Z Button. I recommend practicing to get the hang of it all.

The arenas are a lot more unique this time around, too. For instance, in the F-Zero Mute City stage, the arena constantly moves, and you can even get hit by the F-Zero cars zooming by. (This has to be seen to be believed.) Or in the Pokémon Stadium level, the landscape changes at random. All of the stages have little obstacles and traps like these.

The game is LOADED with all sorts of modes, even in single-player. Adventure mode, for instance, takes you through all sorts of cool stages based on Nintendo games. Players have several battle options, and players can also fight in tournaments with up to 64 players.

What about secrets? Well, I won't disclose much, but there are many characters to be unlocked, like Pichu, Ganondorf, and Prince Marth (from the Japanese RPG Fire Emblem). The only one I would change is Jigglypuff, who doesn't do much of anything. You can even earn many new arenas.

With all these options, modes, and secrets, this game is sure to keep players busy for a long, long time.

After Super Smash Bros. 64 came out, it was bound to have a sequel.

Two years later, the GameCube was introduced as the biggest thing Nintendo had ever created. One of the first games for it's release is this one: Super Smash Bros. Melee! Everything you didn't expected the sequel to be is newly enhanced with bigger battle arenas, more characters, more challenges, more opponents, more battle items, and more bonus features than before! All that made it an instant cult classic.

This game has surpass it's follower from the N64. The graphics are how you would say: extraordinary. Every character is detailed and crystal clear. It's one of the most visual games I ever played during that time. Since it was the uprising of the sixth generation games. So every single game that came out had 128 bits of graphics to create something new for gamers to play.

Also this was one of the first games I purchased after getting the Nintendo Gamecube. And couldn't stop playing it when I first opened it.

Those who liked the previous one will love this one so much. And as you play the game, you'll unlock virtual trophies of Game characters from 1980-2001. Such as a few trophies resembling a couple of upcoming games & Japanese only games.

We all have heard the saying "I bet Mario could beat Link in a battle." and then it continues on into a huge controversy. At least Nintendo invented this game. Now you can see just who would win in a Baddy vs. Baddy competition. Not only just a simple battle but you can test them out in many a different mode, from Tiny Melee to an RPG like Stamina Battle (One of my favorites, namingly because you can kick the corpses around after you defeat them =P). The wide range of extra's instead of 4 secret characters and 1 level is now 12 secret characters and 10 secret levels, making gameplay more different and extensive. Music is perfect (Fountain of Dreams is amazing!) and sound is crisp and fresh. Now I know many are going to get angry at me because of my title, but hey, I don't like XBox at all except the exception of Halo (Which I have not tried but looks cool) but if you ask me, which I know you won't, I think the Microsoft people should stick to computers.

Anybody who's played the original Super Smash Bros. should know how fun it is to smash your friends as popular Nintendo characters. Not only are the controls so simple even a 5 year old could play, but it's also fast, furious, and most of all, fun.

A little bit after two years after its release, Nintendo announced a sequel to the best-selling fighting game. Shown at E3, it passed Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 as the most anticipated Gamecube game. Over the next 6 months, Nintendo tortured their fans by revealing saliva-inducing options such as 292 trophies, 25 characters, 28 stages, an much, much more. Finally, the wait is over, and fans are treated to the greatest fighting game of the year.

The graphics are magificent. People claim the backgrounds are terrible, but they look fine to me. The character design is so detailed you can see the furs on Fox and the curves of the cloth for Mario. And most importantly of all, it goes at a blistering 60 frames per second. That's an amazing feat considering most of the things documented in this site goes at just 24 fps.

If anybody's a fan of Nintendo music, then this is the game for you. It remixes many popular tunes from Zelda's Overworld Theme to Pokemon's Battle Theme. The sound effects are wonderful, and best of all, there is none of the sound editing that plagued the first version.

Super Smash Bros. Melee is not a rehash of the N64 version, as it has been often called. It has brand new moves. Now, if you grab somebody, you have a choice of attacking the victim, or throwing them up, down, forward, or back. There are 4 Special Attacks instead of the usual 3, and you can dodge projectile attacks and mid-air attacks.

In the original Super Smash Bros., the one-player mode was going through a fixed set of 13 stages. In Melee, there is Classical Mode, which is a lot like the original, only the stages are mixed. There Adventure Mode, where the player goes through scrolling world with hazards before fighting your enemy. There is Stadium Mode, where you can play your character's target practice level, beat up a beanbag before seeing how far you can hit it with a bat, and fight against up to 100 computer characters. There is an event mode with 51 events where you fight in special pre-set circumstances. And then there are the 292 trophies which include people like Misty from Pokemon or the go-kart from the Mario Kart games.

But the truly amazing part of this game is the multiplayer mode, which is what makes Super Smash Bros. one of the classics for the N64. You can play the usual stock (lives) or time mode, but you can also play coin mode, where you knock coins out of your opponents and collect there. Then there are the special melee modes, with special battles like Giant Melee (where everybody is big), or Special Sudden Death Melee, where everybody starts off with 300% damage. This game WILL last you over 500 hours if you are a fan of the original.

This game is a perfect example of why Nintendo is so successful today. Like what has been mentioned earlier in this review, this game is fast, furious, and most of all, fun. If you are a fan of fighting games or Nintendo, then this game is a must.

Wow. This game is so perfect. The animation is crystal-clear, the stages are fun, the events are good, single-player mode is entertaining, and the characters and the scenery is completely accurate. This was my first game for Gamecube. Then I got LoZ:OoT and oh my God, the characters were even better in Melee than in the original Zelda game! I mean, Zelda's hair and her dress were exactly right, Link's sword was on the correct side, Young Link had a Deku Shield (He's not supposed to shoot Fire Arrows, though), Ganondorf was exact replica and Sheik was a clone. Then I got Majora's Mask and oh my God, Great Bay was and exact copy! Melee had the pirates cove, the columns in the water, the canoes on the beach, the Ocean Spider House, the umbrellas, the cave to Zora Cove, EVERYTHING! I'm sure if the cameras could turn all the way around, they would have included Pinnacle Rock and the Dragon Cloud too. Aside from the accuracy, the game itself is wonderful. The characters are so well animated, their moves are perfect, their taunts are cute, and they look so...upgraded. Every bit of it is fun. There are different modes to play with, trophies, training, event matches, melees against wire frames, Classic, Adventure, and All-Star single-player mode, it's all perfect! So, to sum everything up, perfect animation, perfect precision, perfect characters, perfect stages, perfect fights, perfect fun. Your all-around perfect game! 11/10!

All I can say is that SSB Melee is the best game I have ever played in my life. There are new characters, stages, and much stuff to do, like the Multi Man Melee. The characters in the game include Roy from Fire Emblem, Falco from Star Fox, Ice Climbers, Bowser, and many new ones. Get this game. You will have a great time! =) Rating: 20 out of 10. P.S.: Falco kicks ass in the game!! ^__^

If there was just one reason to buy a GameCube, this is it. Super Smash Bros is probably one of the best concepts Shigeru Miyamoto ever came up with. All the Nintendo (and affiliates) characters in one game? IT'S GENIUS!! The gameplay is awesome. Just about anybody can pick it up and play but when you figure out how to do the smash attacks, it's that much better.

One player is pretty sweet but it's the multiplayer action that really steals the show. Throw yourself into an arena with either computer or human players and flesh is sure to fly (just an expression, there's really no gore in the game). No matter how many times you play it never gets old... ever! So if you own a GameCube and don't have this title, you're really missing out. If you don't have a GameCube you need to get one and Super Smash Bros Melee with it!

People always ask which system is better...

X-box has the graphics. This is seen on every multi-platform game. The graphics are killer. PS2 has been around the longest. It has the best variety of games. You can get any type of game you can dream of on PS2.

Gamecube makes the best so-called "kiddie" games. Games that are Easy to learn, and Fun to play.

Super Smash Bros. Melee is the best example of this.

How do you play... You can literally play and win by button mashing. How do you win... Make sure that your opponent falls of the stage more than you do. Is it fun.... Well, if you wanted to know if Pikachu could beat Mario, this is the perfect game. It has all of the most famous characters from Nintendo's long history of games. This includes the Ice Climbers, Kirby, Capt. Falcon, Samus, and other hidden characters.

While the game is fun and easy, it has so much re-playability. This game can be played for hours and you won't have the same match again. Even if you use the same characters over and over, it still doesn't get boring. All games should be this fun. This game is easy to learn and hard to master it.

I'm a fan-boy for Nintendo, and games like these are why.

Super Smash Brothers Melee (or whatever the IMDb title says) is one of the best games for Gamecube...ever! It is the sequel to the inferior Super Smash Brothers for the Nintendo 64, which took characters from classic Nintendo games, and made them fight. Unlike the original, which had 8 characters, Super Smash Brothers Melee has 25! Each character is varies, though some are clones of another, just with different speed and power. Each character's strengths and weaknesses depend on many factors, such as the power of a certain move to the speed of how fast they fall. Each character has a set of different attacks. Some can shoot lasers from far away. Some don't have any long-distance moves, and have to approach the enemy first, before attacking. Others can copy their enemies attacks. And, it keeps going on and on. The only characters with the same attacks as the other are the clones. (If you don't know, clones have the same attacks as another character, but they have a different appearance, speed and power.) The game also offers many places to fight, which are usually settings from the character's video games. Just like the characters, the stages vary a lot. One of them scrolls up and down. Another provides obstacles which can turn an entire fight around. A third one is set on a race track. There are plenty of other variations, from the shape to the obstacles.

The game has even more to offer, but I don't even want to get into the single-player mode, or the items you use for combat.

The best thing about it is that it never gets old. I got it for Christmas a couple of years ago, and still enjoy playing it! Even if it is a side-scroller, it will never disappoint.

Brawl and Ultimate may have perfected this type of gameplay, but melee cemented Smash Bros. Legacy in video game history.
