Kelly is moving into a new flat after his last home suffered from storm damage, but his tendency to hoard things causes problems with the moving - and his speech at a charity ball.
Kelly bumps into Sarah (Lisa Vanderpump), a girl he'd briefly met at the charity ball. There's a spark between them, but when she insists on being the one to call him, his self-confessed "chauvinistic principles" are put to the test.
Kelly worries over what people think about him, but still finds time to play characters in flashbacks and imaginary scenes: middleweight boxer Joey Pop, a cowboy without reliable cover, and his own paranoid father.
Kelly feels under pressure and under scrutiny as he's beset by money worries and is meeting Sarah's parents at a wedding. What's more, Sarah won't stop psychoanalysing him.
Kelly encounters an angry man in the park who won't stop swearing, which leads him to reflections on his own use of swearing, Thomas Edison inventing the X-rated movie, and receiving Dear John letters in war time.
Kelly is in a dressing room, waiting for his spot on a stand up gig. As he waits to perform, his mind drifts back to how he started in comedy, performing in strip clubs, and how romanticised "showbusiness" is in the movies.
