The Greatest Rescues of Emergency!
woodsc20513 July 2020
To all of the fans that watched this movie and wondered what happened to Craig Brice? The tall black man that replaced James G. Richardson in the movie was Sam Lanier- the actual L.A. County FD dispatcher whose voice was heard on almost every episode. Richardson was unavailable at the time of filming. This was the producers' backdoor way of saying "thanks" to him and the L.A. Co FD for all of their support. Other firefighters in the promotional scene were actual L.A. Co FD paramedics that had served as technical advisors to the show over the years.

Yes, the movie was cheesy and the show deserved a better finale than what was filmed, but Emergency! was always an "underdog" show. It was never a favorite of the critics or the Nielsens. This movie gave Gage and DeSoto what they deserved in terms of their promotions, but didn't offer the fans any resolution for the rest of Station 51 or the Rampart staff. Did Captain Stanley get promoted to Battalion Chief? Did his working relationship with Chief McConicke improve? Did Chet ever pass the engineer/specialist exam? Did Marco ever open a restaurant and sell his Irish Stew? Did Stoker get promoted to Captain? Did Dr. Brackett become the hospital administrator? Did Dr. Morton complete his residency? Did Dixie retire? Did Dr. Early become the head of the ER or Neurology departments? Those kind of questions would have been answered in a proper finale. Maybe, 43 years since its cancellation, Universal will attempt a reboot of Emergency! in time for the 50th anniversary of its premiere.

Paramedics no more
Paul-30830 June 2006
The final chapter of the career of Johnny and Roy as paramedics is basically a clip show.Revisiting some of the "greatest rescues" in the series history, accompanied by new background music (a longing, sad tune that plays throughout the 2 hour special),Gage and DeSoto arrive at the site where their promotions will take place and reminisce about their past events, and the people that touched them (Brackett,Chet and the like).Among those promoted are Craig Brice, however not played by the same actor that portrayed him a number of times in the series.(this was highly noticeable, and hit me as a rather cheesy way to fool longtime fans of the show). It was mentioned that once promoted, they could not be paramedics too,so,the EMT life of Johnny and Roy ended with this episode....even though 2 more TV movies aired later that led Gage and DeSoto to view paramedics in action in other locales. To fans of the series, this was a sad ending to such a powerful and informative juggernaut that changed the face of emergency medicine forever. At first I was looking forward to the movie, but after watching it,and letting it sink in,it was actually a cheap way to usher Emergency off the network schedule.Shame on NBC....they deserved the bleak years they got after losing Sanford & Son,and Emergency...those are 2 mistakes that NBC will never live down....they chose to anger loyal NBC viewers all for money. And yet, they lost more than they would have if the series continued.Such a loss....

as last show-a little disappointing

just a question actually...why is kevin only listed as FF fire fighter and not the clarification as a parametic as well!! Randolph was listed as such! but no matter, I have followed careers of both, post Emergency! particularly Randolph as he has taken the essential additional training as parametics/fire fighters-have saved countless lives...and it is understood very well that this designation of 'parametic' training or emergency medical training (EMT),is recognized as a life saving program that is widely used, across the US and other countries as well! he spends time travelling across the country speaking on the benefits of this additional training...his ongoing efforts to support these programs has proved the validity and value of first responders to be able to take actions-right away-that will save a life!! congrats to all the stars, writers, directors and each and every crew member for making this series as popular as it was and one of my all time favorites of shows during this time period! sincerely, kgs

This episode was such a tearjerker! Not only seeing how their friendship progressed over time but their character development was just amazing. As my old drama teacher Mrs. Kurtpatrick (bless her heart and may she Rest In Peace) "this is a masterpiece". Jobs well Captains Gage and DeSoto. 🚒

Warning: Spoilers
When this originally aired I was 16yrs old and I was so very sad that the show had ended. I cried from beginning to end as I remembered along with Johnny and Roy the greatest rescues of 2 great FF/PM with the Los Angeles County fire department and the trouble that Johnny was getting him & Roy into. I have the complete series and movies and I watch this movie at least every other week and I still cry from beginning to end even now 41 years later!

Greatest Rescues of Emergency
firefighterzone10 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This TV movie of the television show Emergency was awful, it was basically the last episode of the show, since it was stated the stars of the show were being promoted to captain, and since captains could not be paramedics it ended that part of their carrers and the show.

I grew up watching the show on Saturday nights, and it is what inspired me to become a firefighter/paramedic. It truly is the show that started it all. As the show started on Jan. 15, 1972, pre hospital (paramedics) medicine was in its infancy, overnight paramedic programs started across the country.

This movie was made as a budget saver for NBC, it highlighted clips from previous shows of emergency, as the stars John Gage and Roy Desoto waited for their promotions.
