One of the best Shows out there...
maniac309 October 2002
My girlfriend turned me on to Emeril. I had never liked or ever really watched cooking shows before. Well I am hooked now. I love his show. He seems down to earth and has so much energy and passion for food and cooking, it makes you want to cook. Which I am now. I love to cook and try new things. And this is on of the best most entertaining shows on TV. So if you want to Kick IT UP A Notch, watch this show.

This is what we're gonna do. What we're gonna do is this. We're sorta goin' to, kinda - BAM!!!

The only thing scarier than Emeril is his live audience. Someone seems to have whipped them into a frenzy, even more so than the usual audience for a "live" show. Garlic? Cheer! Butter? Big cheer!! Liquor? Huge cheer!!! I know such shows employ "cheerleaders" to keep the audiences alert and responsive, but these audiences looked as if laughing gas has been piped into the studio.

Between annoying and "hey, maybe I can cook this...but without the show-cook, he's annoying"

A cooking show with an annoying cook who at least explains things very well over and over again. The presentation varies between weird and ok, but is ultimately not a convincing factor to watch this show. All in all, a mediocre cooking show at best.

Spectator sport

Whether good or bad is up to you but he turned cooking into a spectator sport. I don't watch it too much but when it is on and nothing is better I will watch. I started to like after I realized it isn't supposed to be a cooking show only but rather a variety show with an emphasis on cooking

Notches unknown to mankind!

Emeril is the most widely know chef in American today. "Emeril Live" is a vibrant & fun approach to cooking shows. Emeril takes cooking a meal for your family to a higher level. It isn't just heating ingredients, it is "food of love". He inspires & educates. Even kids like him. They want to "BAM!" along in the kitchen too. He takes dishes some people find intimidating, and shows us we all can make impressive meals for our family & friends with a little information, and alot of garlic!! When was the last time a cooking show was this much fun??

A Regular Guy
hillari6 February 2002
Emeril is the man when it comes to cooking. I wish I could be in his audience, and sit up front so I get a first taste of the delicious looking meals he puts together! Emeril is popular because he comes off as a regular guy, not a haughty culinary snob. It is very apparent that he loves food and the art of cooking. He explains everything and makes it look like anyone in the viewing audience could make the meals. A lot of cooking shows are stale and some are deadly boring, but Emeril makes it fun.

Emeril LIve
gsg19981 March 2005
I want to make a comment about the person that commented on Emeril Live. First of all the person that wrote the 1st comment about the Emeril Live show needs a life. I've seen his show and even today I still watch it (2005) and I think he is a cook with personality, humor, and is down to earth.A cooking show without any personality, liveliness, and humor is considered boring and an indication that it's time to switch the channel. I would think most people that watch a cook who is not always serious is more down to earth and more likely to be watched than a cook that's not down to earth, but instead they are boring. From my understanding Emeril Live received great ratings and that's why he's still being shown today because of his ratings that I mentioned above. Sorry pal (who wrote the 1st message) but I think it's you that needs to be more down to earth rather than blaming someone out of jealousy. If you think you are better then go to cooking school and stand in front of a live audience and show us what you got and can do better. If you can do better than Emeril then I will totally agree with you but until then prove it!

This is the MOST annoying person on TV! I love to watch cooking shows because I can get alot of ideas from them, I hate his show. I will NOT kick it up the notch. Quick yelling BAM all the time. And puhleeze get real, no one really acts like this and I have no idea why these people are getting excited over this.

annoying

i agree, this emmeril dude is quite annoying. Sometimes scary. What's the deal with the audience clapping like morons every time he adds garlic to whatever he's cooking??? WTF?! It's a good thing the food doesn't spoil every time he scatters his spit all over when he yells BAM Bam Bam!! Ewww gross! He's a scary screwball, and really, what's with the audience? I'd expect a little interaction going on but it seems as if the audience is scared stiff! Maybe he threatens them or something. Hmmm... I wonder? I'd rather watch the other chef who sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger, only he's punier and mildly entertaining. Take it from me, this is one cooking show intended for Hitchcock fans...

Annoying Hunchbacked Little Man

With the exception of some of the dishes he prepares on FoodTV, Emeril is my least favorite show on the network.

Emeril needs to talk less and just cook. I am not interested in his personality. I just want ideas for new meals.

He must have a tick or Tourette's Disorder because he constantly makes weird humming noises. Also, salt is called salt. It is not called Essence.

Lastly, most people cook with Garlic, minced onions, and butter combinations. This is not something new from Emeril

A grade "D" at best just because Emeril ruins the presentation of the dishes with his idiotic personality.

Crap
mangraa21 October 2002
It's garbage. He's no longer a chef to me, he's a character. I'm sure his food is good, but come on. On one hand, the people who cheer him for adding SALT to something are moronic, but he fuels this idiotic fire. But what do you want from America, where reality shows which have the creative depth of a fish tank, are all the rage? I'm hoping Emeril becomes passe VERY quick.

Oh, and his at-home food items (sauces, etc.) aren't that good anyway. Sounds like he's letting his ego taint his product. Naughty naughty!

A decent cooking show.
BlackJack_B22 November 2005
To be honest, I like Emeril. I think his cooking is excellent and he really comes off as a very nice guy who respects his patrons. He certainly cooks a wide variety of meals; fancy Las Vegas or comfort food and everything in between. I do think he does overdo it with the butter, heavy cream, fat from various meats (pork fat especially), and booze but if you're paying $100 for your meal it must be worth the money. I like Doc Gibbs as well.

What I really hate is that audience. The way they cheer for the Essence, alcohol, and especially garlic can get to you. Also, there are way too many shots of his audience and they always seem to be in some trance. They all have big smiles on their faces; as if seeing this guy cook is the greatest thing to experience in New York. While I enjoy the various guests he occasionally brings in, sometimes his pandering to some of them (Tony Danza) can be almost uncomfortable to watch.

Still, it's a show I like to watch once in awhile and he does hit the mark with some of his catchphrases and antics. I just wish he'd dump the audience. It's scary to see them go over the top. Oh yeah, Babe!
