Andy is called in to a bizarre case, when a man is found dead, bound in a chair, to make matters worse, Peter is away, and Andy needs a new acting D.I. his choice adds complications to the case.
Re-watching the whole series, this one stands out as one of the best, the story is brilliant, it's clever and intriguing, without being impossibly complicated. The dynamic is also different, with Peter away Andy is somehow vulnerable, that's worsened when he bypasses Wieldy for promotion. Some particularly strong characters and performances, John Alderton is maginificent as he always is, Henry Goodman (Dr. Robert Silwood) and Richard Oldham (D.S. Mark Lock) are also particularly good.
A nice bit of back story for Andy, we learn yet more about the kind of mine he was in his youth. Some great one liners too, Wieldy described as Death warmed up, very funny.
A great episode.
