Finally, IMDb has an entry for the greatest show of all time.

I adored this show and loved it like none other. It is my all time favorite TV show and I can only hope that one day, some TV station will rerun it. What a great show!

i met noreen
iamnotpaul17 June 2007
I had the pleasue of meeting Noreen Young, the creator of this show. she also built the puppets and voiced gloria gopher and mrs. mcmurtry. i took a 5 day puppet workshop with her at her house in near Ottawa (since i want to be involved in puppetry). she's a very nice, laid back lady. her house is full of puppets, and i got to see Iggy, Gloria, Jacob and everyone. i also got to meet her brother Steve Braithwaite, who voiced Jacob. on the last day of the workshop, she showed me this video of outtakes from under the umbrella tree. holly screwing up her lines and saying "oh sh**", and Steve Braithewaite and Bob Stutt voicing Jacob and Iggy making them say dirty stuff, it was hilarious. anyways, yeah, that workshop was probably one of the best times of my life

A guilty pleasure!

I was in my late teens and early 20s when I watched UTUT. It wasn't really to see Gloria Gopher, Iggy Iguana or Jacob Blue Jay's adventures but to ogle Holly Larocque. Ms. Larocque may not be (insert man-made babe here) but her outfits, demeanor, acting ability and enthusiasm was a turn-on for me. I had a massive crush on her. She was a true understated beauty; kind of like Marcia Strassman and Julianne Moore.

Still, there were some great episodes on occasion and Gloria, Iggy and Jacob were great characters. My favorite episode was the one where Iggy envied his friends for being taller than him. He did everything he could to get over. When they were being measured, he greased his hair up. Then he built a stretching machine that nearly killed him and finally starting wearing block shoes. In the end, he got over when he went to a magic show and was just the right size for aiding the magicians and getting a T-Shirt. Lessons were learned but unlike Diff'rent Strokes it wasn't done in a heavy-handed manner.

Then and now, Canadians can make great children's T.V. This was a true classic. DVDs are out now so check this one out.

I remembered this show a few years ago!
jescobed-15 February 2005
It was probably around 1989 when I started watching this show. To be honest, its one of the first things I remember, I might have been 3 or so at the time! I remember all of the characters, but I especially liked Iggy the Iguana. He used to live in the bookshelf. Gloria slept quite literally "under the umbrella tree" her borough was under the big plant. And I'm not sure, but if I remember correctly, Jacob had a birdhouse outside the kitchen window. I remember they had this old lady as a neighbor and a man with a white mustasche who lived downstairs. And Holly too! This show was so special to me, it really was the first thing I remember in life. THINGS TO KNOW: It ran from September 1986 to June 1993. It was originally a Canadian show and was distributed by Disney in the US!

This show was the best!

I remember watching this show when it came on the Disney Channel back in the 1990's and I loved it! My favorite character was Iggy the Iguana and he rocked. I liked it how Holly and the puppets taught different lessons and various subjects.

I was sad when this show was canceled in 1993 and then a short while after, the Disney Channel stopped showing the re-runs and I haven't seen any episodes since. I read I think on tvtome.com that Noreen Young might have the show on one of the syndicated channels by 2005, but I am not sure. I wished this show never got canceled, but I am glad for this show lasted for 7 seasons and 280 episodes. I give praise to all the cast and crew who made this show productive.

WOW!

The other day a friend and I were discussing TV shows we watched as young children. I immediately brought up "Under the Umbrella Tree". I don't remember much of the show except there was a middle aged woman named Holly who lived with a blue jay, iguana and a goffer who were acted out by puppets. They always got into crazy situations that would educate the audience. It may of been a low rent Sesame Street but just as good. My favorite was Igee the Iguana. He was the crazy one who always got himself into trouble. Do yourself a favor and try to find this classic on video.

My favorite nostalgic show...

I was watching this since I was born. I remember watching it when I was three and recently I had a dream and I kept thinking of the name 'Iggy the Igauna'. I was asking my family about old tv shows and they mentioned this was one of my favorites so when I found the entry for this show and the characters-it just proves how good things are always with you. I really wish I could see this show again-I miss alot of TV from when I was younger. I loved this show soooooo much though!

I recently found an old tape containing and episode of "Under the Umbrella Tree." This is truly a wonderful show for all ages. I kind of rediscovered the show for myself when I stumbled on it on the tape. I remember watching this when I was younger and it brought back great memories. Looking at it, I begin to think, no wonder kids are so messed up today, because they don't have any good tv shows for them like this. If this show were on today, kids probably wouldn't be as wacky as they are. It's great to know that I'm not the only one in this modern time who still knows about and enjoys this show.

This show was great. I remember getting my friends up every morning at 6:30 to watch the show. It was great! The show never got recginced like it should of. it was just great! the puppets dealt with actual problems, but at the same time the woman was not scared of the talking puppets which was awsome...

Iggy was the coolest
xxlittlekittenxx17 March 2003
Warning: Spoilers
When I was little, I was practically raised on the old Disney Channel (and Nickelodeon!). I loved 'The Raccoons', 'Welcome to Pooh Corner', 'Donald Duck Presents', and of course, 'Under the Umbrella Tree'. It was a nice little show that had sometimes creepy puppets (the thought of those human puppets gives me chills), and it was on for several years (Disney Channel had a way of keeping shows on for many seasons).

'Under the Umbrella Tree' basically involved Holly and her three animal roommates, Iggy the iguana, Jacob the blue jay, and Gloria the gopher. Holly was an artist and the adult of the group, Iggy was somewhat rebellious, Jacob was your typical bird, and Gloria loved machinery like bulldozers. My favorite was Iggy because he was the funniest character on the show, and because that little bookshelf room of his was just too awesome for words (I remember trying to make my own bookshelf room even though I was already far too big for that!). Jacob was kind of annoying because he was so fussy sometimes, but I liked Gloria for being so strong-willed.

Oh man, I remember SO many episodes of this show. I don't know how I remember these old Disney Channel shows so darned well. I obviously have no life, huh? (little spoilers coming)

First, one of my favorite episodes was when Holly and Iggy did singing telegrams, and each one of their jobs turned into a disaster (they also had to wear funky costumes); then there was one where Gloria had to learn to save money so she could buy an inner tube (I could relate to this one because I always had trouble saving money when I was little. I'd spend it on the most useless junk!); one time Iggy got really fed up with being short, so he kept trying to make himself taller, but then realized that being short isn't so bad; in several episodes they did plays like 'The Shoemaker and the Elves', and an original story about a plain dinosaur inventing the bowtie so he'd have something that would stand out about him; another favorite of mine was when they painted a picture story on a long roll of paper (because I've been drawing practically all my life and I love doing stuff like this); speaking of drawing, another episode was about Iggy being jealous of Jacob and Gloria being good artists, so he submits an old drawing of Holly's to this drawing contest, only to realize that being honest feels much better than pretending to be something you're not...

Since I'm on a roll, here's a few more I remember: Jacob hated zucchini, but when it's the only thing in the house, he tastes it and realizes it's pretty good; then there was one where Iggy, Jacob, and Gloria got into a first aid kit and used up all the bandages and stuff when playing doctor; there was also an episode about Iggy, Jacob, and Gloria totally forgetting about chores and plans while playing video games all day; and Iggy had this country relative (don't remember his name) who came to visit a few times.

(Phew! I remember a lot more than those too, but if I wrote all the ones I remember this review would just be too long)

'Under the Umbrella Tree' was kind of campy, but it was a cute show for kids. I sure loved it. I hope it somehow comes back on the air.
