Chilling, atmospheric and utterly terrifying!
CuriosityKilledShawn20 November 2004
Though the game has been around for years I've never taken interest in Resident Evil until recently. I got the game for dirt cheap and was surprised how good it is. I saw my cousin play the old Playstation version years ago and was unimpressed but for the Gamecube the graphics have been re-rendered to absolute lifelike perfection. The shadows, the sound, the ambiance and those thunderclaps...all highly, highly realistic. Play this with your Gamecube hooked up to your home theatre. And like me, you'll totally jump out of your skin at the scary parts (many of them).

My main hint is conserve your ammo. If you see a zombie, put it down right away (no funny stuff) and burn it. Take care of them one at a time. And if you don't burn them they will soon come back as Crimson Heads-faster, deadlier, scarier.

Much like the Myst series, Resident Evil is one of those games where you have to keep your eyes and ears open. Clues and puzzle pieces are scattered all over the place and you need to pay attention.

Don't be put off by the size of the mansion. After a short while it's easy to get your bearing and find your way through rather easily. Though I will be honest with the fact I did not understand most of the story. I have no idea what Trevor's diary from 1968 had to do with the plot and I really didn't get why Umbrella would create the T-Virus. I know there are various ways to finish and complete the game though. Especially seeing as how there are many clips during the end credits that did not happen in my game play (I did it in just over 8 hours). If you finish it in certain time frames the next one is always different somehow. I only managed to unlock a new outfit for Chris. Wow!

My only gripe is about those boring 'door opening' cut scenes. They really got on my nerves. Still, it's a chilling game that will freak you out if you play alone in the dark. Well worth the time and money.

"You have once again entered...the world of survival horror..."

The remake of "Resident Evil" for the Gamecube is a top remake. This is one of the reasons that I purchased a Gamecube.

The graphics are superb, the atmosphere is quite chilling, the gameplay is top notch. There are new areas, enemies, puzzles and gameplay features. The original music is still here with a slightly remixed focus; from the un-nerving mansion corridor tunes to the soft and soothing "Save Room" theme and the delicate "Sigh of Relief".

GRAPHICS - 10/10

Easily the best graphics I have seen on the Gamecube - almost real in parts. Superb shades and lighting. Even better than Resident Evil 4 in my opinion.

CONTROLS - 7.5/10

A little bit fiddly at first but you soon get adapted to them in 30 minutes or so.

LENGTH - 7.5/10

A decent length. First playthrough it will probably take about 5-8 hours to complete depending on how good you are.

I just wish is was a few hours longer than was it is. First time around it will take some beating but after you have completed it you will know the specific routes, item locations etc.

If only there was a piece of programming within the game that randomised all item & enemy locations every time you played to allow for a new challenge.

FEAR FACTOR - 8.5/10

I'll admit that when I first played on this I was a bit nervous going around corners and walking past those "crimson heads" as well as other things.

The camera angles are perfectly placed in that you can't really see where you are going at times and it makes you slightly nervous not knowing what is ahead. As well as that, the graphics and lighting effects make the game superbly eerie with dark hallways and gloomy shadowy rooms. There are also a few other surprises and shocks in the game that just might just make you jump...

SOUND & MUSIC - 9/10

The music from the original is all here but is slightly different and remixed. Excellent for those nostalgic memories from the original.

REPLAY VALUE - 8/10

Extras can be unlocked depending on how you complete the game. These will have you replaying over and over again for some time.

OVERALL - 9.5/10

A superb remake. Great to re-visit the original RE with updated graphics and gameplay.

Here's me hoping for another Resident Evil remake for the PS3 or Wii in the future.

The best game ever made...
Lando_Hass1 May 2002
Resident Evil for the Gamecube is a remake of the original that hit the Playstation in 1996.This game is a completely different game,it is alot harder and it has alot more areas. The graphics are revolutionary, the gameplay is excellent and the control is pretty good.Resident Evil has new updated graphics that are so far the best out there, you can see every little detail on the characters' clothing, and the lighting and fire effects are amazing. This one also has better sound effects, the gun shots sound more realistic, and the zombies/enemies sound more disturbing. The game is also very interactive, for example, you can burn zombies when they're on the floor, stab them in the head, shove grenades in they're throat, and shock them. The games controlling in my opinion is the same, the control scheme is the same as the previous games, the joystick is a little to sensitive, but it cant effect your gameplay.Capcom has completely remade Resident Evil,it has some new bosses, more areas, more items, different puzzles, and I think a new gun. From What I have heard,Resident Evil has lots more replay value,it has 10 different endings, and invisible enemy mode. The best part of this game is indeed the fun factor. You can now stab zombies in the head, shock them with a tazer, and put grenades down they're throat. The blood effects are more realistic, when you shoot a zombie, the blood will go on the carpets and soak into it,and when you stomp on zombies heads, blood splatters all over the floor.Really,Resident Evil is so far the best game on the Gamecube right now. Graphics:10/10 ; Control:10/10 ; Gameplay:10/10 ; Fun factor:10/10. Resident Evil is a great game that delivers everything you could possibly want in a game.10 out of 10.

An updated classic of excellence
anony_mous1315 October 2006
The original Resident Evil for Playstation in 1996 was, and still remains classic. Now, pretty much every aspect of the old game has been updated, redone and improved into this very well-made and highly entertaining game.

The graphics are some of the best out there for GameCube, mainly because of the static camera angles (which are annoying to some, but helps keep the scare factor and dark atmosphere). Different kinds of shadows dance along the walls, water drips onto the ground, and characters move both fluidly and realistically.

The gameplay has been improved also; there is now these so-called "defense items", which can prove to be very useful in deadly situations. The controls remain mainly the same, for the better, or for the worse. There are also different types of puzzles in the game, some of which will have you thinking for a while. It's also a pretty long game. It took me about 10 hours to complete the first time through.

If you played the original Resident Evil back in '96 and are curious about this game, don't hesitate to buy it just because "you've already seen it". The experience is totally different, with plenty of new rooms added, some edited, and a plethora of all-new cutscenes and scenarios.

In conclusion, it is a very good game, including both suspense and nerve-wrecking terror all in one game. If you played the original and want to relive the adventure starring Chris and Jill, or if you simply like horror games, this is the one to buy. Several different unlockable weapons and game modes will keep you playing for a very long time.

A Meticulous, Memorable and Iconic Experience
amongpixels28 March 2021
2002's Resident Evil, a remake of the classic 1996 game, was headed by Shinji Mikami with the goal of replacing the original and realising his true vision for the story and game. And there's no doubt he succeeded.

Having never played the original, this leaves me with no desire to do so after experiencing Mikami's true vision for entering the survival horror. The graphics and visuals are stunning and have a slick, clean and classy flare to them. The direction is at times scary, other times exciting, and sometimes just plain cool. The entire opening cutscene sets the stage perfectly for an atmospheric horror with Hollywood-influences, having expert lighting, sound-design, pacing and camerawork.

The central characters also have an endearing goodness about them which makes them instantly likeable, while the unfolding mystery of Spencer Mansion is constantly engaging.

My first play through as Jill Valentine (which took about 18 hours), was a nerve-wracking and intense experience. Turning every corner and entering every new room was an effectively scary thing. Throughout the run, there is also a consistent amount of new enemies and creepily cool bosses thrown into the mix that kept me on edge. At times, it was hard to see where this was all leading, but the mystery of the Mansion and finding out what would happen next kept me going. As soon as I concluded I felt an urge to play it all again. I wanted to see what the game was like now knowing what it had in store.

And it was on my second playthrough, as Chris Redfield (which took around 10 hours), that the experience truly came together for me. It perfectly clicked as to why there were two playable character experiences in the first place. Knowing what was coming, I was truly able to appreciate how seamlessly the puzzles, discovery and pacing all came together. And it was rewardingly fun to prepare myself for each coming obstacle and overcome the horror. Not to mention, the differences in characters and story here and there that help make it feel like a fresh experience.

It's safe to say this game has a timeless balance of horror, tension, mystery and excitement that make it a truly fulfilling and memorable game. Not to mention a nice ray of hope and heart with its primary characters. Resident Evil deserves its place as a classic video game.

The original is back with

Warning: Spoilers
"POSSIBLE SPOILERS"

"Resident Evil" was originally released for playstation back in 1996. I have followed the evolution of the series for the last 8 years, and I still think that the original game is the best. Therefore I was happy to see that capcom would remake the original game for Nintendo`s Gamecube, so I just had to buy a Gamecube. "Resident Evil" for the Gamecube is a game that newcomers and veterans of the series should enjoy. This is a brilliant introduction for newcomers to the genre of survival horror, which I would say was invented by the original playstation-version(I know that "Alone In The Dark" was out first, but it really was "Resident Evil" that perfected the genre). For veterans of the series this is a brilliant return to where it all started 8 years ago: the scary, atmospheric mansion and T-virus. The graphics in this new version are some of the best ever created, but Capcom have not just released the old game with fancier graphics. There are many new rooms in this game, new story elements and monsters. Those of us who have played the original playstation-version dozens of times will absolutely want to complete this title, and the fresh elements that I have mentioned before will indeed justify buying it. I should also mention that this is a game for mature audiences that no one under the age of 15 should play. This is in my opinion one of the best games released for the Gamecube, and it is worth buying a Gamecube just for this title. 10/10

A Love Letter from Capcom
I would like to point out how much I adore Capcom for giving the players a thing not many other companies have, a totally re-rendered ultimate version of the original RE, with a lot of added content.

The graphics are some of the best the Gamecube has to offer, boasting chilling life-like fog, intensely detailed backgrounds and nerve-shattering enemies. And the sound is absolutely stunning, with different sounds of footsteps for just about every surface, different howls for every enemy and very realistic sounds of thunder, that really set the mood for any horror game.

Some players might be turned off by the constant running around and little action, but that makes it all the more terrifying when the action gets going. Ammunition is low, there are never enough health kits and one is constantly pushed into narrow hallways.

RE is a tough game, with an emphasis on the "survive" part of horror games. It'll probably take you from 20-25 hours to complete, but those hours will be as nerve-wrecking, mind- shattering and tension-fueled as any other horror game on the market today.

In all, RE has the same style of gameplay as presented in the original, so the haters should stay away, but the fans are in for one heck of a thrill ride.

A horror classic that may still be unsurpassed
maxglen3 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This game is an absolute classic. I don't really get scared by horror games anymore but Resident Evil Remake no matter how many times I play it gets me on edge. I emphasise that the Remake is the way this game was meant to be played. By the time they made this version they had already released 3 Mainline entries and were closing in on their 4th and this game takes all the world building that 2 to 3 did and injects it into the original game, to make it feel that much more at home. It's also impossible not to mention the fantastic visuals, They're still Gorgeous to look at today and the designs are memorable and pop Just right. Music is absolutely perfect, from ambient on edge tracks in the tense areas to the reassuring if slightly unnerving save room music. Voice acting has been improved immensely and the additions to the story work like they were there from the very beginning. Pacing is the only thing I'm not a huge fan of but even then it's far better than most titles out there. If it's your first play through without any guide it will probably take you upwards of 10 hours but if you make good pace or have played it before it will take you 6 to 7. Unrelated note but my three favourite animals are Sharks, Spiders and Snakes and this game takes all 3 of them and makes them terrifyingly huge boss fights which I have always loved and hated in equal measures. I'd give it a 10 but I have to take a few little points away for the pacing. Decent to strong 9/10

A brilliant remake!
TalesfromTheCryptfan16 November 2008
In the city of Raccoon City, strange murders have occurred with reports of families and some folks getting eaten by creatures. The Raccoon Police City department sends out the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team of Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker, Barry Burton and formerly Joseph Frost are sent to investigate a large mansion in the outskirts of the city. But what they don't know is that inside the place there's dangers galore with zombies, giant snakes and other weird monsters just waiting to have their blood as they must complete their investigation of what is behind the weird killings and the creatures.

A wonderful and absolutely brilliant remake that manages to be better then the original! it stays clear of the cheesy dialog that some fans of the series thought the original game's dialog was stiff that it needed to be improvised but you still can play as either Jill or Chris. It also improves on the original's live-action opening with actors who are just plain bad. The graphics and game-play are really outstanding as it gives us a bigger look at the Mansion and even some brand new puzzles. Here in this new version there's even a Nemesis-esquire female creature named Lisa whom is a true abomination of a creature beyond anything in your nightmares.

The music score for this remake is terrific as it used a remixed version of the original soundtrack score. The game also uses new plot element that enhances the original in every way and it's one hell of a scary and gory video game that will scare the crap out of you.

This game is a solid winner all the ways! strongly a must play.

Best remake of one of the best games in the series.
cruise0115 April 2020
4.5 out of 5 stars.

Resident Evil remake delivers a faithful adaptations of the original game. I played this on the GameCube and loved every minute of it. There are some new additions like new areas to explore in the mansion. Every enemy like zombies. Undead dogs. Hunters. Chimera. And the tyrant are all great. There is a new thing if you don't burn the dead bodies after you killed a zombie. It will rise again in another time and the zombie will be a lot of faster. Which was scary and intense. The controls are great. The graphics are amazing. I loved every detail of it. One issue I did have with the game is the music score. It was very quiet and the music score was set to a low volume or kept to the shadows with this game. I loved the original music score that was in the old game. And really missed it in this remake.

The perfect remake.
richardhillier22 May 2021
It's a shame this isn't how all the remakes were done. Perfection. Taking everything from the original and improving it and not only that they added more. This is by far the best Resident Evil in the series. It respects its source material.

Resident evil 2 remake sadly couldn't live up to its original.

Resident evil 3 remake was just a big mistake.

Too Much Waiting Time and Backtracking
chriswyo614 July 2022
Resident evil remake is a very boring game in my opinion. Most of the game is just spent walking through a million doors, in which EACH ONE has a 5 second waiting time. Without a walkthrough telling you what to do, you will probably be lost because there is a lot of backtracking. The sound and atmosphere however is excellent, and I love the aesthetic of the mansion. The gameplay is also really simple, just shooting with no variety. I was interested to learn more about the story, but the gameplay is really too slow and mundane for my liking.

An amazing experience, if not an extremely difficult one.
Patience_Is_A_Virtue26 February 2008
Let me start by saying that anyone who is new to the series should NOT start here. I did, and I got nowhere the first time I played. To me, this game was too difficult, some parts got me really frustrated and after a short time I eventually decided to give it up. After a while I played the original game, which I really enjoyed, then after that I played Resident Evil's 2, 4 and 0 (in that order). Both were fantastic and relatively easy. So, after playing these, I finally decided to go back to REmake. When I did, it was so much easier for me. I realised that I needed to conserve my ammo, and also not waste ink ribbons. I also realised that even though I'd already played four of the other games, this was still the most difficult. I did get through it eventually however.

Anyway, on a more positive note, the game itself is amazing. The graphics are stunning, the storyline is fantastic and the game is actually terrifying. This is the only Resident Evil game that has truly scared me. The atmosphere is much scarier than other games plus the fact that it is a lot more difficult makes things even creepier. Ink ribbons are very limited, as is ammo, and this game just has more of a 'survival horror' feel to it than 2,4,0 and even the original had. Let's face it - the original was far from frightening. Good as it may have been, the voice acting made it seem like some sort of parody. With this game comes fresh new voice actors that get the job done (better than last time, anyway) also the main characters, Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, are two of the best characters in Resident Evil history. I have only managed to complete Jill's scenario, but I am currently trying to play through Chris', though like before it is still very difficult.

Another thing about this game is the fact that they changed a lot of stuff from the original. Now, even the normal zombies are considerably faster than before, and when you shoot some, they come back later as 'Crimson Heads' which can be very annoying if you're not ready for them. These zombies have the ability to run faster and claw you. However, one thing that makes this game better than the original is the fact that the graphics are much, MUCH better, as is the voice acting, but also Lisa Trevor finally makes an appearance after being referenced in the original. Lisa is by far the most terrifying creature I have ever encountered in a Resident Evil game. There's just so much to love about this game, and yet the fact remains that it is a very difficult game. Anyone who thought this game was easy, I seriously commend you. I can honestly say that it has never taken me so long to finish a video game as it did for me to finish this one.

However, all that aside, the game is brilliant. Any fan of Resident Evil who has at least completed another couple of games in the series should check this one out. But remember, if you're new to the series, PLEASE don't start here. Only if you're the best at playing video games should you start here.

A genre-defining masterpiece
Field7813 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Resident Evil started a brand new life on the Gamecube in 2002 when Shinji Mikami decided to rebuild the scary mansion from the ground up, with new graphics, voice actors, story elements and puzzles. I must admit that, having played the original only a couple of hours on the Sega Saturn, I was never a big fan, with its C-movie acting and non-intuitive button controls. But this thorough update interested me enough to give it a try. And there are few games that top this one since.

Resident Evil games are genuine horror experiences, in that they have a very cinematic quality to them. The third-person perspective and changing camera angles have their drawbacks, but they also create the feeling of participating in an interactive horror movie. Resident Evil Remake (or REmake) is unique in the series, because it marries the sub-genre of zombie movies like Night of the Living Death to the haunted house movies like The Haunting of Hill House. There is something inexplicably creepy about huge, deserted, creaking mansions filled with old furniture and art (ghosts of the past still lingering?). The makers utilize this certain aspect to maximum effect, with spooky lighting, creepy shadows, eerie winds and thunders in the distance, ticking clocks, moaning zombies, etc. Elements as these have been used in tons of scary movies, and REmake shows that it still works.

The pre-rendered backgrounds are astonishing, to almost photo-realistic effect. From the classically decorated rooms to the dimly-lit basements to the cold laboratories, it all looks equally beautiful. Although 'beautiful' is perhaps a strange description of rooms crawling with cockroaches, covered in grime and/or blood. It is in such details as flickering lights and rustling leaves (combined with appropriate ambient sounds) that the environments become lively instead of static, and the way that characters and interactive elements blend into those environments is another hallmark of REmake's perfection: reflections, shadows, lighting and sounds of footsteps that change with the foundation make the trip through the mansion very realistic.

The zombies themselves are testament to the horror that happened within the walls of the Spencer Mansion: a lab experiment gone terribly wrong. The story is mainly told through cutscenes and files spread throughout the mansion. The road towards the explanation of what has happened is a first-class trip towards the inner circle of hell, with environments becoming more sinister and hostile, zombies popping out of every room, door and closet, and ever-more dangerous monsters appearing with time. For RE veterans, REmake has a lot of new things to offer besides the nostalgia, the better graphics, sounds and voice acting. About three quarters of the original puzzles have been altered, improved or replaced. An entirely new sub-plot revolves around a family that was the first victim of the Umbrella Company's sinister experiments, which has created one of the game's scariest adversaries (I didn't even dare to go back to an area I knew she had been). Also new is the appearance of so-called Crimson Head zombies; undead that have mutated into an even deadlier and considerably faster form (which must have been a foresight by the makers, since running zombies now feature widely in movies like 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead (2004)).

The thing that didn't change while it actually could have been is the button controls. The characters still move by turning them and then pushing them forward, which can be annoying for novice players when camera angles suddenly change and you find yourself surrounded by hordes of undead. But those who have a some time and patience to master them eventually shouldn't have too many problems with it. Which can't be said of the short cut-scenes of doors opening, when you move from one room to the next. This used to be an animation masking the time needed for loading the new environment, but it is no longer necessary for the Gamecube that can read the information fast enough. Still, Mikami and his team felt it gave an extra artistic quality to the game, which is true to a certain extent, but they could have made them shorter than the standard 5 or 6 seconds they usually take. I will not be the one complaining on and on about Rebecca Chambers, a character in the game representing the damsel in distress; many gamers think she's just an annoying little drag, but come on, give her a break: she has only just joined S.T.A.R.S. and not everyone can keep his cool in a house filled with the undead and other monsters! Every horror movie needs a desperate character.

But again, these are just minor points in a game that keeps you on the edge of your seats, delivers multiple deep scares and keeps the plot twisting and turning until the last zombie finally hits the ground and the girl is saved. Welcome to the world of survival horror.

Capcom makes it big, again!
knaalto15 October 2002
"Resident Evil " (Bio Hazzard) is one of the main reason that I'm interested in Nintendo GameCube and I must say this game really makes me shiver. For those of you who remembers "Resident Evil" on the Playstation there is much new stuff to explore in this version of the game, new rooms, new items, new graphics, new sound effect & of course new scary angels. I really recommend this game for a horror-game experience that will make you shiver way past bedtime.

Hardest Resident Evil Game
JordanPage19889 July 2006
Resident Evil Zero was relatively easy to beat, because there was two controllable characters, which also made it less scary. Resident Evil 2, lets face it, it's the cheapest looking Resident Evil game, and it can be beaten in under 3 hours. Resident Evil 3, is quite difficult, only because of Nemesis. Code Veronica is the only Resident Evil game that may be as difficult as the Resident Evil (Remake). Also we all know Resident Evil 4 is the easiest of all of them.

Resident Evil is the second best, falling under the Sixth installment (RE4). The only reason that it's worst is because it's very, very hard to beat. The fastest I've beat the game was over six hours, and I was flying through it. But that is also why Resident Evil is good. It's like Neo in the Matrix, the first time he tried to jump across to the other building, he failed. It's the same with Resident Evil. It takes so much skill to play.

For example; you shouldn't kill zombies, only when it is necessary and you need to burn the zombies that you kill, unless you shot off the head.

Lets face it, you need to be really smart to beat Resident Evil in 5 hours. I'd say it cannot be done.

Resident Evil 1 Remake is a piece of Art
xG-Manx12 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This review contains some spoilers. So, I have now played Chris' campaign like 12 times and the same goes for Jill which is much to little when thinking about how great this game is. It's the definition of a flawless masterpiece and deserves to be on every Top 5 video game of all-time list. Now let's start with the games design. The graphics look beautiful, you wouldn't think this game came out in 2002 and I would go so far and say that the "Remastered" release looks even better than RE5 and 6. The pre-rendered background give the game a great aesthetic look and the use of shadow and light effects is also well done. Looking at the zombie's shadow when they are knocking on a window is breathtaking when combining it with the cinematography or should I say fixed camera angles. If this would be a movie it would be a contender for film with the best cinematography of all time pretty much rivaling the likes of Halloween (1978) and Shining (1980).

The music much like the environment adds a lot to the games atmosphere and Remake has by far the best score in the franchise followed by Code Veronica. The environment is also the best in the series as it first of all had the Spencer Mansion ,which is far more original than just running around in an zombie infested city like shown in most zombie movies, and second it offers most varieties as you also visit a cabin in the woods, a forest (when just short), a tank with zombie sharks, a cave with boulders that Chris wasn't able to bunch back in 1998 and a lab.

The puzzles are also some of the greatest in the series if not the best. Just like the environment they offer a lot of variety and are very challenging but besides of that there isn't much else to say but getting the items for them is a scary fun scavenger hunt.

It's also the scariest game of the series not just for the environment but also its monsters. Crimson Heads are a nice addition to the game as it makes you think twice wether you are willing to kill a zombie with the low resources you got or not as only a head shot or a destroyed leg will kill them for good. You can burn their corpses but fuel is also very low in this game. Hunters take 3 shot gun shells to be killed and they can kill you with one instant kill attack and if you forgot to save, well then have fun playing thru the living nightmare you survived so far all over again. There is also another monster additional to the remake, but I will talk about this a bit later.

But where the game really shines is the story and its characters. I never understood why many people view movies with simple stories as simple but still good but why this does not go for RE baffles me to this day. Most of Resident Evil's story gets told by it's files and finding and reading them really makes me feel like some sort of detective that is trying to solve the mystery about the happenings in the spencer mention. And yes, mystery equals good story telling just like character development does! Reading all the files written by some of the scientists who became victims of the T-Virus outbreak makes everything about it so intriguing "Mm, itchy tasty" and I like how everything gets revealed piece by piece which will lead to the big picture about the Umbrella conspiracies. I still can't find any contradictions and story inconsistencies in this game, which is what would make a story bad objectively speaking.

So, I revealed my reasons why I love the execution of the story so much but what about the characters that carry out the story? REmake has my favorite cast of major characters. Wesker, Jill, Chris, Rebecca and Barry are all in my Top 5 RE characters list. I like the interactions between them. Chris having that big brother attitude when talking to Rebecca who is all scared and afraid as a still young and unexperienced girl (let's act that RE0 doesn't exist, ok) and member of S.T.A.R.S, she never thought she would experience something like that in her career wasn't she. You can see her sorrow when she is crying over Richards death after Chris told her she got eaten by one of the neptunes. I like how Jill and Barry always ask themselves what is going on in the mansion which combined with reading the files increases my interest to find out what happened her even more. It almost feels like I am with them....in the mansion. I wish they would still have the "Jill Sandwich" and the "master of unlocking" line from the original in the game as I can't see how this would hurt the remake. You can also see that Barry goes thru a lot as you find out Wesker is using him for his personal benefits. Speaking about Wesker. He isn't the great villain as he is in Code Veronica and Umbrella Chronicles but going back and see where it all started with him makes me appreciate him more and more. Especially after Umbrella Chronicles since this game shows more of him in the time of the mansion incident and the T-Virus outbreak. The reveal of him being the villain working as an Umbrella scientist and double agent was also done very well. For me the characters in this game feel like real people. Real people that are inexperienced with the things they are witnessing in this game and they feel especially real than compared to most video game characters from the same era that are basically super human or one man armies. And of course, there is also Lisa Trevor who has one of the most tragic back stories of all time but I don't want to spoil this. It's a great subplot, which is surprising because of stories actually suffer from sub plots more than they actually benefit from. I didn't say much about her when talking about the monsters but she is just as intimidating as the Crimson Heads and Hunters if not more in some cases.

The voice acting is pretty good for 2002 standards. Chris and Jill had actually the weakest voice actors with Barry surprisingly being the best. I wouldn't change anything from it though as it just like the gameplay and the music goes perfectly hand in hand with the story, the tension and the mysteries.

This is a no brainer but adore this game. If RE2 remake is a Hollywood blockbuster with zombies and RE4 is a campy B-Movie than REmake is pretty much an arthouse film with zombies and monsters. It's in my opinion the best game in the franchise and one of the biggest pieces of art and of course if I would give this a review score, I would give it a 10/10.

Thx for all the readers and if you for some reason still haven't played this game. Go pick it up. As a Resident Evil fan, a zombie fan, a survival horror fan or an old school gamer you won't regret it. It really baffles me how so many people still haven't picked up REmake despite it now being out for every modern system, some people, I guess.

this game rocks

Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the first resident evil game on play-station one but this one i love. There is a lot of new stuff that is kind of tricky to get down. Besides that I loved the detail they put in the remake version like the movie parts of the game. They put one thing in the game that really through me off at first and that was the fact that you have to burn the zombies after you shoot them in order to kill them. I did find a very cool way to kill the boss Lisa in the tomb room. Your character is down there plus one other person what you have to do is let Lisa go after the other person and you push the rocks of the edge. If you open the door before Lisa comes after you the tomb opens up and you get to see the remains of Lisa's mothers body Lisa yells mother and then she just jumps off the edge all by herself. After saying all that about the remake version, I hope someday i will get to play resident evil 4.

This game was great. But some parts boring and bad. Like really boring. I was hoping to see more interesting stuff. And Jill's story was the same thing as Chris', they just swapped roles. Though, it was nice seeing Rebbeca. (You can see Rebbeca half way through the game as Chris.) That's all I have for this game.

New Packaging Same Product: Still Bone Chilling

Warning: Spoilers
In 2002 Capcom and Nintendo made a deal for three Resident Evil video games to be made on the new Nintendo GameCube

One of those games is a remake of the game that started the Survival Horror Genre.

Resident Evil centers around S.T.A.R.S: Special Tactics and Rescue Service as the team is sent to investigate a series of blizzard murder cases in the Mountains outside Raccoon City and to search for the lost Bravo team. However after the team is attacked and members of the team are killed the survivors Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton and Albert Wesker escape into a mansion however the team soon discovers that the mansion is full of Zombies and other monsters. As the plot goes on you learn who is behind this nightmare and how the player must survive the night. In the game you get to play as Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield each having their own story and game play along with a partner Chris teams up with Rebecca Chambers the surviving member of Bravo Team while Jill teams up wit Barry Burton

The game got a huge overall making it to where the player can follow the story and plot and the script is more than improved.

First thing I got to say about the game is that the graphics got a huge and dare say superb upgrade the level of darkness and lighting really gives the game that fear factor that Resident Evil is known for plus the character models look excellent almost if they did motion capture for them and they look very well done as well as the level designs and the monsters will give you nightmares

The voice acting is top notch and the writing for the game does an much better job with helping the player follow the story along with the cast given a powerful performance

The controls take the feel of fear and you have to be ready for anything and the game play will make you jump through out.

If you are fan of Resident Evil you will enjoy this upgrade to the game the started it all

I give Resident Evil an 9 out of 10
