DC may have some of the best characters — arguably better than many of the Marvel characters. That being said, there’s no denying that the year has been less-than-optimal for Warner Bros., who has put out Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. Sure, both movies were ultimately profitable for the studio, but neither were universally praised fans or critics.
Recent news of The Flash director Rick Famuyiwa dropping out of the project, as well as rumors of a troubled script behind The Batman have done nothing to quell any unease fans were feeling regarding the direction of the DC Extended Universe. Given the movies we’ve seen from them so far and the troubled development and production of their upcoming projects, it’s hard not to wonder if they have any actual grip of where to take the shared universe next.

The concept of a shared Universal monsters universe isn’t really an idea that works well in a sentence-long pitch. Had the studio been one to pioneer the idea, perhaps it would have been met with more excitement, but as it stands, it’ll be the fourth shared universe to kick off, following the likes of Marvel, DC, and King Kong/Godzilla. As a result, this move from Universal reeks of desperation, and seems evidence of a lack of innovation in Hollywood.
But once that initial cynical knee-jerk reaction wears off, the actual merit of the idea starts to take hold. It’s not as though the likes of the Mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, etc. haven’t shared the screen before. In the past, the outcome has usually been played for comedy, but if it’s played for genuine scares, then it could really be something...

Cairo -- Egyptian security agencies have stopped the screening of a documentary on the Egyptian Jewish community a day before it was due to debut in local cinemas, the film producer said in a statement Tuesday.
He said no reasons were given.
The "Jews of Egypt", a documentary that follows the lives of the Egyptian Jewish community in the first half of the 20th century until they left under duress in large numbers in the late 1950s, was screened in Egypt last year in a private film festival and had been approved by censorship, a regular procedure in Egypt.
Film producer Haytham el-Khamissy said he heard from the chief of the censorship authority that a security agency asked to view the movie before granting it a license to be shown in theaters.
"I was shocked when he told me this and when I learned that this had already happened" before the 2012 festival screening,...

Revenge, just when I was ready to issue a strong rebuke about how you need to distance yourself from all of that Americon Initiative nonsense and get back to making me care about Emily’s plight… you do just that. You’re so tricky!
This week’s episode wasn’t the series’ best, but it was a sight better than the past few, and the cliffhanger was a Hamptons classic worthy of Season 1 love. So I’m going to break from our usual format to hit the reasons “Forgiveness” excelled and, of course, suggest a few points to consider in the coming weeks.

Soccer ace David Beckham has warned his fans not to be fooled by Facebook.com profiles apparently created by his young sons - because he keeps his children away from social networking.
The sportsman and his wife Victoria Adams are parents to Brooklyn, 11, eight-year-old Romeo and Cruz, five.
On line profiles of the boys have appeared on networking websites, but Beckham has spoken out to reveal they are all fakes.
In a post on his Facebook page, he writes, "Just a quick note to warn everyone. There are a lot of fake Facebook accounts out there. My boys aren't on Facebook, but there are many fake accounts in their names. These profiles are nothing to do with us, please stay away from them. Thanks guys."...

It looks like we have a positive ID on the woman for whom Tony Parker betrayed Eva Longoria’s trust – several sources say it’s Erin Barry, wife of Parker’s former NBA teammate Brent Barry. Barry and Parker have secretly been texting each other for over a year, and now Eva Longoria has discovered the secret and decided that the messages were just a little too personal for her liking.
Parker still insists that it was just a bit of flirting and that nothing actually happened, but there were literally hundreds of messages between him and Barry on his mobile phone, and during that time he failed to mention anything about it to his wife, so clearly he knew he was doing something wrong.

Tony Curtis passed away a couple of days ago – he was one of the true legends of acting. He did everything from comedy to drama roles, appearing in more than a hundred films over the span of a career that lasted more than six decades. In the past two days, his former co-stars, friends, and family have come forward with their memories, and it seems like the guy was universally loved by everyone who knew him. Not that I expect people to come forward and hate on the dead guy, but sometimes when unpopular people pass, everyone remains politely quiet. Not the case with Tony Curtis – his daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis, made a public statement talking about the extended family that loved him, and fellow actors Kirk Douglas and Kim Novak have both issued statements declaring their sadness at their friend’s passing. It’s sad that he’s gone,...

Thanks to Empire On Line it looks like Sherlock Holmes 2 will get an earlier start date, acording to Mr. Watson himself Jude Law. Law tells Empire principal photography will start this Autumn around sometime around October. Law says Guy Ritchie and his minions of writers are almost finished with a story but there's no word of a villain yet. Law is anxious to start filming Sherlock Holmes 2 and says he really had a lot of fun working with Robert Downey Jr. and Ritchie.
Next up for Law will be the Martin Scorsese film Hugo Cabret which will be the first childrens film for Scorsese. Then he'll tackle Sherlock Holmes 2 and rounding out the year with Steven Soderbergh's action film Contagion.
So who's ready for some more Sherlock Holmes adventures?...

On line streaming video games service, OnLive, announced this week at Gdc their launch date of June 17 with details of their game rental and demo service. The basic monthly service will come at a price of $14.95 a month plus the added fee of rentals and game purchases.
Alongside their basic service of playing games on demand, they have announced their sub service of OnLive Game Portal. OnLive Game Portal will be free to sign-up and offer free game demos with the ability to rent a currently limited amount of full games.
OnLive Game Portal will release shortly after OnLive’s main service.
How do you guys feel about OnLive overall? Personally, I’m still skeptical about cloud gaming especially since I have to pay a monthly fee on top of still having to purchase the games.

Director Terry Gilliam has confirmed to Empire On Line that Johnny Depp won't be in his reshoot of his aborted film The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Depp had starred in the original version before the production was shut down due to factors beyond Gillliam's control. The debacle resulted in the acclaimed documentary Lost in La Mancha. Gilliam is sticking to the old adage, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." He will be re-shooting the entire film with a new leading man, as Depp is scheduled to do back-to-back movies next year including Dark Shadows and The Lone Ranger. (Yikes...how many people remember the immortal Klinton Spilsbury, the last man to play that role on screen???) For more click here...
