Bogey on my six!" Talking space animals fly starships to battle the forces of an evil space-tyrant monkey scientist, and it was so goddamn awesome!!!

Warning: Spoilers
I remember how it felt to be playing this for the first time many-a-moon ago on my sweet Super Nintendo where I knew it as "Starwing." I thought it was so much epic fun as you spiralled and dodged your way through those wonderfully trippy terrestrial and interstellar polygonal environments and blasted away endless enemy ships, I thought the whole thing was so glorious and thrilling to play, and the music was excellent and engaging and it really made you want to keep playing and kicking ass! I loved the instantly appealing cartoony faces and silly-sounding voices of the fox, eagle, frog and rabbit as they constantly popped up and gave pointers and reminded you if you were accidentally shooting them! I thought it was very different and good solid gaming experience and I wasn't even into shooters, platformers and RPGs were more my thing but this game was brilliant to me and I still have that fond childhood viewpoint of it whenever I'll see it around on the net these days. Times may have changed a lot and the style of the game is now antiquated, but I still find that the game today remains effective and still has a considerable wow factor and there's still a lot to like about it, although the graphics are not exactly detailed whatsoever or textured; there's still something unique and special about its visuals and the atmosphere despite the limitations, what still remains is a fun action rail-shooter that's quite unlike any other. When you look at it today, or at least when its fans do, you can still see how it was one of those games that were a big revolutionary step at the time, this much hyped game really did deliver the first 3-dimensional adventure on a Nintendo console, which it accomplished through a special FX chip that was built into the cartridge that showcased amazing and unheard of polygonal graphics for the system. This is one challenging and addictive video game that deserves to be rediscovered and enjoyed to this day. Some games will live forever as classics and to me this is definitely one of them. "Good bye!" (Or is it "Good luck"?) x

The Giant step from 2D to 3D!
reddragonhero1729 January 2017
Ah Star Fox, another SNES classic I love to this day. Although its polygon graphics don't fully hold up today, what matters is the gameplay. You're zooming through space and many imaginative planets bursting with creativity and of course varying degrees of danger. I love the feel that you're actually flying through space and Argonaut software really put their best effort in making the illusion real. What's amazing how much was put into this cartridge that gives the 3D look and feel thanks to the super FX chip included. I even like the gibberish animal speak the characters have, most amusing, though they did include actual authentic voice acting at certain parts such as the beginning, in between missions, and the ending. Overall a landmark title in the history of gaming and the missing link to one other game that made the giant step from 2D to 3D....

Movie Nuttball20 December 2004
The Star Fox series is one of the most different flying adventure video games! The characters, the action, and the sure thrill of adventure makes this game a fun non-stop playing time! Below is a brief look how I think the game is!

Game Play: The game play is very good. There is really basic controls here and is easy to perform. Novice gamers should have a good time here!

Graphics: The graphics are wonderful especially for the Super Nintendo system. The backgrounds are really beautiful!

Difficulty: The game is easy but as it goes on you find out that it will become more difficult!

Music: The music is great! Just fantastic catchy tunes through out the game! In My opinion its some of the best music ever in a video game!

Sound: The sound is great. Nuff said!

Overall: I have always loved Star Fox! If you like excellent flying adventure up games then I strongly recommend you play this game! To purchase this video game check out Amazon.com!

Landmark title in the history of the 16-bit wars
The_Light_Triton22 April 2015
In the 1990s, Video gaming was huge. But nothing was bigger than the corporate battle between Sega & Nintendo. While Sega had thrown their hat into the 3-d ring with the Virtua games, Nintendo came at them with Star fox, and not only did they introduce the very first game that was capable of 3-d polygons on their console, they created one of the most popular franchises of all time.

The Star fox team are a team of mercenaries on the peaceful planet of Corneria. Then one day, an army of bad guys from the planet Venom attacks their peaceful home, causing them to retaliate. these mercenaries, made up of a Fox, a falcon, a toad, and a hare, hop into their trusty arwings and fly through space, coming for venom, and largely, Andross, the evil being behind the attack on Corneria.

For the super Nintendo, this might not be the most impressive game on the system (That title arguably would go to Donkey Kong Country) But it's also the first to be in true 3-D. A few other games would follow, including Dirt Trax FX, and Stunt Race FX, meanwhile, games like donkey Kong country, which used 3-d rendered sprites, also became available for the console, including Killer Instinct, and even Disney Interactive's Toy Story.

Would I recommend Star Fox? Totally. However, due to it's Super FX chip, the game has not been made available on Virtual console/Nintendo E-shop, but it's readily available at your local retro gaming shop, usually commanding a high price.

A SNES classic
Rautus28 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Starfox is a great gem of classic gaming, the graphics are amazing with the early type of 3D used and the polygon graphics really make the game-play effective. The game's name was changed to Starwing in the UK because of another game using the title of Starfox on another console. The game has you playing as Fox McCloud who is the leader of Team Starfox, a group of animals that fly in high-tech spacecrafts doing missions for General Pepper in the Lylat System,. The villain Andross is on planet Venom and you're mission is to assault planet Venom and defeat Andross, at the start of the game you have three routes to choose from. Picking one of them begins the game and you go through that route to Planet Venom. The game-play is fun and easy to pick up since before you start you get a control select option and you can pick a training mission. You fly through levels shooting the enemy and dodging various obstacles that are in your way, you're partners also help out by shooting various enemies but you also need to help them when they're under attack. When you reach the end of a level you encounter a boss, defeat the boss and you progress to the next level of the route you chose.

Starfox (Starwing) is a great classic on the SNES that doesn't disappoint with the action and skillful levels. Check this out. 10/10
