The Danish Film Institute has posted a shortened version of this film running six and a half minutes; though the front title is missing, it plays to continuity and may have been condensed, or censored. Nevertheless, it's warp and weft is intact; Bud and Ham are looking for a job, and they are hired by a Chinese laundryman. In the process of making a horrendous mess of the laundry, they find some money, and kneel down to play a sort of gambling game, using the roll of bills like dice. The actual owner of the money shows up, and pandemonium ensues. There isn't much more to it than that, and "The Winning Wash" as a whole doesn't really make a lot of sense. But that's not the point of it -- the chaos of the situation and sheer craziness of Ham and Bud's antics make "The Winning Wash" a winner in itself. Look also for genuine Chinese actors in the laundry, though its proprietor is played by Jack Clifford, an Anglo.
