With only 14 episodes to its name, "Firefly" had time to realize just a fraction of its creators' ideas. Since its cancellation, the show's actors and writers have discussed many ideas for unmade episodes. Among them is Alan Tudyk, who played Hoban "Wash" Washburne, the eccentric but very skilled pilot of the starship Serenity.
Wash never got much backstory during the series' abbreviated run — his full name is never even said aloud. The bulk of his character development, including his sole focus episode "War Stories," centered on his relationship with Zoe (Gina Torres). So, Tudyk took initiative in fleshing out his character. As he's recounted multiple times, he even had an unused idea for what Wash was up to during the Unification War. While his future wife was off fighting the authoritarian Alliance, Wash had a much different experience.

American actress and producer Lake Bell talks about the moment she knew she had arrived - on the set of post 9/11 drama War Stories - when she was directed to her very own chair. The drama series - in which Lake played a war photographer opposite legendy Jeff Goldblum was her first 'big job' - and Lake talks about the emotional roller coaster of being an actor, saying 'acting's really hard'. Lake also explains how fickle the television and film industries can be, with many unknown actors having to 'jump through hoops' to get casted for parts, or even get an audition. It was Lake's role on War Stories that set her on her way to star in TV series such as Miss Match and ER.

Jeff Goldblum is reuniting with NBC. The actor, who toplined the network's two-hour movie/backdoor pilot War Stories earlier this year, has inked a talent deal with NBC to star in a new series project targeted for fall 2004. "Whatever role Jeff Goldblum has inhabited -- a leading or supporting -- he always pops," NBC president of primetime development Kevin Reilly said. "He's got that unique quality of being offbeat and, at the same time, approachable and likable, which makes him perfect to build a show around." Goldblum, whose feature credits include the blockbusters Jurassic Park, Independence Day and The Fly, was recently seen in the offbeat comedy Igby Goes Down. He is currently filming Wes Anderson's feature The Life Aquatic and will next be seen in Showtime's Spinning Boris. Goldblum is repped by UTA and Industry Entertainment.
