Bound By Loneliness
crossbow010628 February 2010
This story is about a champion rugby player Kazuki(Toshiaki Karasawa) who, during a match, strong arms another player and causes him to be in a vegetative state. Kazuki leaves and goes to work as a physical education teacher in a small city where he encounters Moe (Kyoko Toyama), who goes to that boarding school and things happen between them. Moe's character is very complex, she is rebellious due to the fact that she is alone, the only student in the school not going to her parents for the summer holidays. Their affair is at first creepy until you realize they are bound together by their mutual loneliness and their mutual notions of being outcasts. This film is basically a psychological drama and it works at that level. The two main actors are very good, especially Ms. Toyama, whose doe eyes really covey her need for someone to want to be with her. Not a perfect film, but the story flows well and it doesn't ever reach the threshold of being gratuitous. I recommend it to drama/forbidden fruit love affair fans.
