Forgotten Atmospheric Gem of a Film
doublelifeofveronique5 January 2024
I saw this atmospheric ,wistful film on RTE television in 2003 and it has lingered with me ever since.

Set in a rural lakeside Irish setting it features a young couple at one of those crossroad moments where the decision they make will shape the rest of their lives. It looks like they make the wrong call when the young cartographer emigrated leaving his soul mate and a half of his handcraft map of their beautiful homeland behind.

Two years later he returns and despite the deck of a very changed emotional landscape being stacked against him, an older friend who made a terrible mistake in the past convinces him that there is still a lingering chance that 'this time round' history will not repeat itself. But will the moment slip away a second time?

Sensitively acted by both the younger and older characters, atmospherically shot and complimented by an original soundtrack that captures the yearning, the reaching, the uncertainty and even the beautiful landscape in which the drama unfolds tragically or redemptive.

This lost gem deserves to be unearthed and put on display a second time round..what about it film makers?
