In "The modern cyclops", two different species meet and collide : on the one hand the hulking giants known as Cyclopes and on the other hand us Homo sap. Needless to say, this well-made claymation short was inspired by the one-eyed monsters from Ancient Greek mythology. It is a savage fairytale, or perhaps a savage parable, about the ways in which Stone Age barbarity and sensation-seeking decadence can overlap. Another theme is the unkind condescension shown by the more obnoxious kind of tourist.
The various characters aren't pretty to look at, but then that wasn't the aim. They were meant to be expressive, which they are. The final images pack a punch worthy of a thriller or a horror movie.
