Strangely humurous, predictable yet effective

A love triangle scenario that ended in tragedy and got a respected doctor (Buza Ferraz) being charged of homicide after killing his wife (Maitê Proença) and her alleged lover (Pedro Brício) is the premise of "Vox Populi" and its strange humored tones. While we wait for the trial verdict, the short story chronicles the events before the tragedy and the people close to the main couple, describing their actions and nature.

It's a quite amusing film though it's plot twist highly predictable, specially for today's audience where usually nothing is what appears to be. And though the title is a mystery to most audiences, Latin for "The Voice of People", it's a reflection on all the people close to the main couple and their views on them, whether good or bad, and also the jurors in determing the doctor's fate, of which I'll leave out of the review.

Why watch it: the hilarious performance of Maitê Proença as a nasty woman. She usually plays good and warm natured characters and here she has the chance to shine beyond anything she ever did before, and her character is the one who goes through a complete transformation in the story (she even got an award for it). I liked Pedro Brício character too, he was lovely and funny, the complete opposite of the serious and repressed doctor. It's the cast that makes it something good out of the ordinary routine. And plus: while the movie is a comedy through the most part, it's the very final act that pushes us back in seeing how serious everything was, a very realistic dark tone. 8/10.
