Your money or your skull?
mark.waltz14 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This strange little comedy short has the in debt Cliff Edwards ("Ukulele Like") agreeing to donate his skull to mad doctor (Olin Howland) to pay the mobsters off. It's pal Frank Faylen's idea, while girlfriend Margaret Hayes goes out of the way to prevent Cliffs l from being de-capped. A combination of goofiness and bad taste makes this an odd example of classic film comedy, showing that good taste often ended when the censors weren't really playing attention. Ironically, this was made the same year that Edwards voiced the role of Jimminy Cricket, making this needing a song called, "When you try to remove my skull" to the tune of the more famous Disney song he did sing. Hayes, who could have been a good young star of B movies, would find cult status as an unforgettable aging leading lady in film noir a couple of decades later.
