Amazing journey
I've previously read some stuff about Jarle Andøy in Norwegian magazines and was excited when this documentary was being shown on TV. And the documentary is great. These guys have balls. Travelling in a small sailboat to Antarctic, truly inspiring.
Jarle Andøy and David Mercy have also travelled into the jungles of Congo in search for a mysterious jungle creature this was also filmed and shown on TV but sadly IMDB is not updated and that documentary is not registered at IMDB. Neither is Jarle, David & Alex journey to the northpole registered.

Inspiring, to say the least
Jarle, the captain of the sailing boat 'Berserk', is a true adventurer and deserves many accolades for pushing the boundaries. Before this particular adventure starts, Jarle has already sailed a small boat (a lot less than 30 ft, I believe) from Norway to South America. This, in itself, is a massive undertaking.
After a refit and some modifications to Berserk, Jarle decides to head to Antarctica single-handed. An American and an Argentinian hear of his plans and manage to get themselves on board for the journey (neither having sailed before).
And so they head off into the most dangerous ocean on the planet...and barely get back alive! In between is some fantastic photography, wildlife, icebergs and personal trials which serve to remind us of the frailty (and strength) of man.
An absolute must see for anyone with a sense of adventure - no matter how deeply buried!

Adventure
Correction to previous post on this film: Jarle Andhøy arrives in South America! ...makes acquaintance with an American and an Argentinian, the three then sail to Antarctica across Drake Passage in the tiny yacht. Superb footage of the wild sea, icebergs, pack ice, penguins and the two (they let the Argentinian catch a lift home with a cruise liner) remaining adventurers messing around with seals. It's a really good film of a bold young Norwegian seeking adventure - and finding it! The yacht's fate is fortunately sealed once they have already returned from the dangerous and remote waters of the antarctic. I saw it at Kendal Mountain Film festival in the UK - I think a DVD of it may be available in Norway.
Truly awesome and inspiring
I saw this at the 2001 Banff Film Festival when it came through Thunder Bay and it was truly amazing. Jarle arrives at South Africa, which he sailed all the way from Norway in a tiny boat just to see, and it depressed the hell out of him.
So he meets up with two guys who have NEVER sailed, one of which has dreamt of visiting every continent and has no way of getting any further south from his current location, the other running away from his wife who, if memory serves, he left at the altar. The first we see of them he has them tying knots and failing.
I'll leave it at that, but safe to say the photography is amazing, the drama is intense, and overall its one hell of a fun ride. You REALLY care about these guys and its a truly amazing journey. Hard to find, but 100% recommended.
