It seems like with each passing day there are more accusations and new lawsuits filed against Sean “Diddy” Combs. The music mogul, whose homes were raided on March 25, denies any wrongdoing. But some of the allegations against him are reminding many of his behavior decades ago and his cruel response to the trauma he put others through in his reality TV series Making the Band.
Diddy’s unreasonable demands for the show’s participants
One of the memorable moments from Making the Band 2: Da Band was when Diddy demanded group members Sara Stokes, Lynese “Babs” Wiley, Dylan Dilinjah, Rodney “Chopper” Hill, Frederick “Freddy P” Watson, and Lloyd “Ness” Mathis walk from Midtown Manhattan to Junior’s in Brooklyn and get him a slice of cheesecake. Diddy made it clear anyone who opted not to do the walk would be sent packing.

Nearly 20 years ago, Making The Band presented a model of the music industry’s dystopian future. The entire concept was in the title — throw a group of random, desperate and wide-eyed musicians from across the nation together, and force them to coalesce into something marketable — until Diddy envisioned something more powerful and everlasting. In quick succession, the world received Da Band, Day26, and Danity Kane. Now Diddy and MTV are reviving the concept in another effort to sell consumers’ childhoods back to them.

The N, a digital spinoff channel of Nickelodeon targeting tweens and teens, has greenlighted a new unscripted series. Twelve episodes of the half-hour dating series Best Friend's Date were ordered from de Oliveira Entertainment Group (Making the Band 2). Rick de Oliveira and Adam Tobin will produce Date, which begins shooting in Los Angeles this month. Date allows a teenage contestant to have his best friend pick a blind date from a selection of potential mates. "We are making a dating show for this particular age group," said Tom Ascheim, executive vp and general manger of Nickelodeon Digital Television. Ascheim has also ordered a third season for the N's Girls v. Boys franchise, from Dancing Toad Prods., to be shot in Montana. The current season takes place in Hawaii. Girls pits a team of three girls against three boys in a series of physical and mental challenges. Both Date and Girls will premiere Dec. 3. Available in 40 million homes, the N is the evening half of the digital channel known as Noggin during the daytime, when it targets preschool viewers.
