During the escape from Bud and Clover's, Chris trips in a playground as he crosses over a tree branch. Prior to this being shot, Jonathan Rudy pointed out to Mark Goodman that the branch should be removed for safety. Looking at it instead as a natural obstacle that could improve the scene, Mark stated that it should remain where it was. Sure enough, as he leapt over the tree branch during filming, Jonathan's shoelace accidentally wrapped itself around one of the branches' twigs. Ben Watson (Pat) then hesitated. At that point, the director yelled, "Keep going, keep going!" and Ben finished the scene. Later, additional shots would be filmed with Associate Producer James Jordan's daughter dressed as 'Molly' to make the scene run more smoothly.
The bakery was filmed in an actual bakery that was closed down in Payson, UT and many people came in to purchase cookies during filming. One woman in particular walked in on the scene ignoring and stepping over cables on the floor with grip equipment, lights, a missing wall and a camera standing directly behind and to the right of Frank Gerrish. Frank acted out his character while the other actors and crew watched on, telling the woman that she didn't want 'these cookies'. Bewildered and confused, the woman eventually left and filming proceeded.
The scene where Pat peels chewing gum from the sidewalk was no issue for Ben. The crew even washed and thoroughly cleaned the sidewalk before placing the gum there. Ben Watson's only displeasure was that he hated the 'taste' of bubble gum more than the thought of peeling it from a dirty pavement.
Mark Goodman requested Jonathan Rudy not to 'run' into the water fearing that he would trip or sprain his ankles on the boulder sized rocks off the shores of the lake. Ignoring this advice, Jonathan ran as fast as he could into the lake and finished the run in one take.
The first shot of initial photography was of Chris walking down the sidewalk before his first visit to the ice cream and bakery stores.
