Memorable only for Jackie and Sangeeta Bijlani's steamy song

Lakshmanrekha review :

Veteran actor Pran's home production directed by his son Sunil Sikand; Lakshmanrekha was a typical 80s style two hero actioner with Danny playing the main villain. Jackie Shroff had a meatier role than Nasseruddin Shah. Nothing memorable about the film except for a steamy song picturised on Jackie dada and the gorgeous Sangeeta Bijlani.

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

Between good and average

Warning: Spoilers
Lakshmanrekha is another typical action film of good versus evil. The film is handled well but terrible in certain parts where stupid songs are thrown in to create a flow in the story but end up making plot holes. The film is about a middle classed family where Pran is the dad Roshini is the mom, Amar is Naseer the adopted son and Ravi is the real son. As usual, they would show that the adopted son is more well behaved and takes life seriously. While, Jackie is a care free guy who later works as a thief for criminal Birju played by Danny the best villain. He is good and for once he sings songs and does funny comedy especially before he headshots the first guy when he plays Antakshari with him. The on going scenes create some impact by showing realism. How you need to be a deceiving person in order to fill your stomach and live the leisure life. But, Jackie gets kicked out of the house for such behaviour and after lots of downfalls from Naseer who is now a police officer. He goes to kill Birju but fails and is seriously wounded and left for dead. This is when Pran is killed, and Jackie the real son fulfills his dream and becomes a police. Only to find out that Naseer is now a don type criminal but helps the good. He refers to himself as a MUJRIM(CRIMINAL) and uses style and tactics to kill all the enemies. Sadly, he dies at the end when Birju is arrested but Naseer tries to kill him but he gets stabbed. But, he does shoot him 4 times to take revenge. The stupid thing is, why did he not use style here, he just dies and makes the end tragic. Then again, he doesn't have a heroine, Shilpa Shirodkar also dies. TYPICAL TRAGIC BOLLYWOOD END IS THE FINAL PHRASE HERE! Jackie Shroff is good, but his romantic and crude comic scenes bore at times. Naseer is the real hero here, he is good as the cop in the first half, but is awesome as the criminal in the second half making the film entertaining. Jackie definitely gets better in the second half and his serious action roles are much better than his romantic comic ones. Sangeetas Bijlani is OK, she is funny in the comic scene when she tries to get the dogs to bite Jackie. Shilpa Shirodkar is OK as well, nothing great. Shammi Kapoor is wasted and thank god he dies, his role wasn't even needed. Danny is an awesome villain, his expressions and dialogues make you clap at him. The action is OK, the final action scene overdoes it a bit too much with the car jack truck and the cheesy stunts where Birju shoots Jackie and he moves back falling from the window like he was on skates LOL. Overall, the movie is an average film which is good in times. But, I won't recommend it to people as Shammi Kapoor ruins the movie with his stupid act completely!

It is a forgettable movie
rahuljagat13 August 2006
I saw the movie during my college days .It is a typical good cop - criminal friend movie. Why did Naseeruddin Shah agree to act in it is a question only he can answer. Very average performances by the crew.Sunil Sikand had the experience of working as an asst director in some super hit movies including Suhaag, Parvarish, Amar Akbar Anthony and Dharam Veer. But unfortunately he cannot recreate that magic. He has not realised the ingredients of a super hit movie.Jackie is forgettable and Shilpa shirodkar suffices the feminine content. I don't think anybody even remembers the movie. Danny, Pran and Shammi Kapoor are wasted here.
