A late night thriller where both the writing and the acting are above average
bbhlthph18 June 2006
This is an amusing but amoral little trifle prepared for Direct-to-Video release and presumably intended primarily for the late night showings in hotels or on cable TV. Such films are often so uninteresting that they appear to have been designed to help the viewer fall asleep - especially when the volume level is set low. To cure a restless night, diverting an overactive mind with a little eye candy and a soporific story line appeals to many people such as myself more than taking sleeping pills. But if I need to do this I always play the film through my recorder so that, should I become interested in it and still fall asleep, I can replay it at normal volume another day. SS&B is one of the very few of these films which has made me glad I took this precaution, and so far I have even kept the tape unerased!

Traditionally films intended primarily as time killers used to be known as generic comedies or thrillers because they simply varied the permutations among a few basic well known story lines to form the plots. Some 30 years ago nudity, and later some simulated sex crept into those generic films which were intended for late night viewing. Most of the soft-core films of this type distributed today are classed as sex comedies, but I do not know how to classify the few thrillers - they are sometimes called erotic thrillers but few are in any way erotic, and if we call them sex thrillers we create perhaps unjustified expectations of a 'Peeping Tom' type storyline where the thrills are associated with the sex itself. Here we have a fairly conventional thriller in which Matt (Alex Ferro) owes a gambling debt he cannot pay to Carl (Dan Anderson), a gangster prepared to use physical methods to expedite payment. To save him, his wife Maggie (Nikki Fritz) offers sexual and other services to Carl for a week. Meanwhile the police are at last planning to arrest Carl, and so he finds he also needs to use Maggie's services to help him find out how much the police know. This later leads to Maggie becoming involved with Lisa (Angela Davies) an undercover police officer working for Carl. The build up of tension and the final climax are both inevitable and predictable (although relatively brief in duration and therefore unlikely to spoil the viewers subsequent sleep), but the acting is much better than usual for a film in this category, and it all remains quite enjoyable. Anyone who likes films with plenty of eye candy and some simulated sex scenes would most probably enjoy this film, although by its nature it remains a very forgettable piece of nonsense. Nikki Fritz and Angela Davies both act quite competently, as well as providing plentiful and very attractive eye candy; but I preferred Ms Davies for eye candy because her bosom appeared to be entirely her own.

This type of film is hard to rate, most of them barely (pun!) warrant a 1 or 2. In the case of those few that have a reasonably complex and coherent story line. plus some competent acting, the contrast is so great that I want to give them a 9 or 10 - which is ridiculous for lightweight fluff of this kind. I now have a simple rule - I will never give such films a higher rating than 6 and, since they very seldom warrant more than 3, there is still plenty of room for the few better films such as SS&B to stand out when rated at 5 or 6.

NOTE: IMDb refers to a DVD of this film released in Canada under the English title 'Betrayals'. Amazon..ca lists such a DVD with the matching French title 'La Complice', released by VVS Distributors last year and presumably featuring bi-lingual sound tracks, but I have no idea whether this is a DVD version of the same film

It's all Nikki, all the time......I give it an A.
Smooth B28 November 2003
Warning: Spoilers
I just saw "Sex, Secrets & Betrayals" for the first time tonight, and I was quite impressed, to say the least. For a softcore film, it had a well-written story with a good amount of subplots. Of course, Nikki Fritz took center stage and gave a performance surpassing that of even "Sinful Obsession", which I consider one of her best films. Spoilers abound, so read with caution.

Nikki stars as Maggie, a beautiful woman whose husband, Matt, is a compulsive gambler. To settle Matt's extravagant debts, Maggie goes to work for Carl (Dan Anderson), a hot-headed gangster who Matt owes a lot of money to. The district attorney is gathering info on Carl in order to finally take him down, so Carl is out to silence any and all witnesses who come forward to testify against him. Maggie goes out to seduce the assistant DA, scrape whatever info she can out of him, and report back to Carl. After a "job well done", Carl has sex with Maggie and sends her on her way. Carl then has his two lovely assassins "eliminate the problem" and make it look like an accident. It's a simple process, actually.

There's a rat in the mix, however. Carl's personal assistant (Angela Davies) is actually an undercover detective working on keeping what few witnesses the prosecution has alive and safe. She's dug up some incriminating info on Maggie's past and uses that in order to get Maggie to team up with her to bring down Carl.

The story keeps moving and doesn't drag at any point. There were plenty of twists and turns and a couple of "philosophical discussions" that seem to be prevalent in softcore films. The women looked great, especially Nikki Fritz. Nikki has an awesome body and gets numerous chances to show it off; she gets naked seven or eight times during the film.

Now on to the sex, and there was plenty of it. When Nikki Fritz is in the majority of a film's sex scenes, gyrating about, flipping her hair wildly, you know you've got a winner on your hands. Angela Davies, whose work I'm somewhat familiar with (I've seen her in "Hot Club California" and "Best Sex Ever" before), got naked a couple of times, and she was very good. Maggie's sister didn't get naked, but she had a "girl next door" kind of look to her. The assassins weren't bad, either.

This is a tapeworthy film; if given the chance, get it on tape for future viewings, you won't be disappointed.

Women: A (Nikki Fritz and Angela Davies are the best looking ones, but the two assassins were nice as well.)

Sex: A (The sheer number of sex scenes involving Nikki Fritz keep this grade high, however throw in a three way with Carl and the two assassins and Angela Davies showing what she can do on a restaurant table solidifies things.)

Story: A- (I was surprised by how good the story was. Softcore movies aren't too big on storylines, but this one was pretty good. Carl's dialogue made him seem like a big-shot with lots of power, and Maggie's philosophical dialogue made her seem smarter than she looks. The ending was somewhat anti-climactic but wrapped things up nicely.)

Overall: A (I'm giving this movie an A on the strength of Nikki Fritz's performance. She's the master of the hair flip. She gets naked frequently during the film, and there's never a dull moment when she does. Angela Davies impressed me with her softcore skills, too. Also, the story kept me interested in the 5 or so minutes between sex scenes. "Sex, Secrets & Betrayals" is a pretty good film and goes up there with the best Skinemax has to offer.)

Sex more than pays.
michaelRokeefe7 February 2004
ADULT. Softcore. A beautiful woman(Nikki Fritz) spends a week with her old corrupt boyfriend "working off" her husband's gambling debt. No need to get involved with a real story line when there is a ton of simulated sex scenes scorching the screen. It is hard not to notice Fritz...she appears to be naked even with her clothes on. Most of the acting is lame and the sex is overacted. Also in this direct to video eye popper is Angela Davies, Alex Ferro, Daniel Anderson and Wendy Rice.

How far would your girlfriend go for you?
jeff9341 July 2004
This movie asks the ultimate question how far would your girlfriend go for you?

This is one of Nikki Fritz's best movies in my opinion in it she is the wife of a guy who owes her ex a rather large amount of money. He doesn't have the money to pay him back so what does the Ex do? He breaks her husbands fingers. This makes the husband go into hiding. In return Nikki makes this plan to convince her ex to let her "Work off" the debt by doing favors for him over the week and weekend. Everything from having sex with him to finding out who is after him in court and who the witnesses are. I think they should have had the camera on Nikki more than they did the lesbian bodyguards didn't do anything for me they looked too Butch. Other than the lesbian Bodyguards the movie was awesome I prefer one of those Nikki Fritz massages right now. lol anyway my rating for the movie.

Only 2 real reasons to watch.. ok i mean 2 enhanced reasons to watch
movieman_kev1 February 2004
Maggie (Nikki Fritz) takes matters (among other things) into her hands when her boyfriend gets in over his head with gambling debts. She agrees to be Carl the gangster's sex slave (more or less) for a week. Things get complicated when Carl's personal assistant/ undercover agent blackmails Maggie into getting the goods on him. This soft-core skin flick has 9 sex scenes (including M/F, F/F, and M/F/F), but it doesn't have the great storyline nor that special something that would make it more then the middle-of-the-road status that it finds itself in.

Where I saw it: Cinemax-on-Demand

My skin flick Grade: C+

INSTEAD of this watch: "Hidden Passion"

Nikki Fritz - Oh. My. God.
Dr. Gore16 November 2003
Warning: Spoilers
*SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT*

I saw this on cable the other night. Two words: Nikki Fritz. WOW. Wow I say. She has beautiful breasts that look great naked or squeezed into a dress. In other words, she looks hot all the time. She has a perfect body. It was built for sex. It's a good thing too because her body is working overtime in this one. She has six or seven sex scenes and they are all good.

So Nikki goes back to her old, evil boyfriend to help her husband work off a gambling debt and ahhh who cares? What's important here is that Nikki is having a ton of softcore sex.

She has got the hair flip down to an art. You know, whenever a sex scene starts, the performer has got to be mindful of where the camera is and flip the hair off of their face. Nikki is the hair flipping master. Her long brown hair flies through the air. She should be the spokeswoman for whatever shampoo she's using. It would be a hot seller.
