Way ahead of its time, a great game

Dark Earth was released in 1997, developed by the now defunct Kalisto studios and published by Microprose of the Worms fame. The game was definitely one of the best adventure games of its age, working without a 3D accelerator such as Voodoo to produce pretty graphics. The story is intriguing and even though game play doesn't last for longer than 6-8 hours there is still an awesome atmosphere to immerse yourself in. The story is set post-apocalyptic Earth, where a phenomenon known as "The Great Cataclysm" has obliterated most of human life on the Earth's surface, with the world (as the title suggests) shrouded in darkness. Humanity eventually develops the means to build a City of Light amidst the darkness and a civilization ensues. However, a new threat lurks in the darkness with the prospect of bringing this city, Sparta down to the ground. You must take control of the protagonist Arkhan and guide him through an adventure of subterfuge, deceit, intrigue and wonder. I was head over feels for this game back in 1998 when I first got my hands on it; it is without a doubt one of my favorite adventure games of all time. I wouldn't mind seeing a remake or a feature film, if anyone is willing to take on the project.
