Blessed with the star presence of Jessica Drake at the beginning of her career, Nick Steele's "Taboo of Tarot" is one of many Adam & Eve excursions into New Age mysticism. This genre is an acquired taste, way out-of-step with current fashion in the Adult world, but I dig it the most.
Story follows the structure of a fable, with "Twilight Zone" twist ending to boot. Heroine Chandler is obsessed with Katrina Sands, a tarot specialist who disappeared mysteriously long ago, and film is set at her atmospheric home (shot on location at Piru Mansion in Piru, California, site of many TV and mainstream movie shoots).
Show takes on the format of a "white nightgown" suspense film, as Drake and Chandler wander around barefoot in the spooky place in their white linens, introducing vignettes keyed to cards in the tarot deck ("Two of Cups", "The Chariot", etc.). There's dialog, with Drake acquitting herself nicely, but basically Steele presents the popular pantomime porn approach. Top-notch tech credits including the moody score make for an arousing and involving suspense/mood piece.
Besides Drake, whose long legs are artfully framed in a stand-up sex scene, the femme beauties are all endearing, including Euro import Nikki Anderson as Katrina, Chandler as the sympathetic heroine (who surprisingly bears a very close resemblance to current star Scarlet Johansson) and Kianna Bradley as a Hollywood star. The period re- creations are convincing without being lavish or pompous as they might be in a Scorsese/Leo (see: "The Aviator") mainstream project set here.
