Can You See The Real Me
MARASMO really comes across as a nasty piece of work, yet it leaves you wondering if the film was an attempt to portray any aspect of the actual political situation in Columbia. The storyline is fairly compelling, yet the characters seem one dimensional, and the acting is overwrought at best. The plot deals with the adversarial relationships between radical revolutionary groups and the paramilitary establishment in Columbia. However, the film never allows the viewer to feel that what is being depicted has any basis in the real political situation anywhere in South America. I streamed the film at Netflix so no Bonus Features were available, yet this kind of partisan polemical movie really needs a commentary to ascertain the intent of the film makers. In any event, it's a beautiful film to look at, and was filmed in Costa Rica, however it does contain two particular brutal rape scenes which may or not be gratuitous or uncalled for.
