The story was based on a group house of door to door newspaper salesmen who lived with the writer/director and worked for the Atlanta Journal Constitution - yes, these types of salesmen did exist in the 90's. Since the film was based in DC, Kalorama 6 Pictures came up the with name of the paper to be the Washington Examiner and made it to be conservative leaning. This was prior to the actual creation of the Washington Examiner.
Rachel Whitman Groves, who played Wendy, used a scene (included on this page) to score her first agent in New York City. In 2015, she was fifth in the cast of credits behind Arnold Schwarzenegger and Abigail Breslin in the movie "Maggie" and also played Cokey Flo in the TV mini-series The Making of the Mob: New York.
