SouthernMan Films are currently in pre-production with 'Tree Keeper', an independent feature shooting this summer in Cork. The film examines the story of Doire, a recluse who decides to live in an inherited forest and stars James Browne, Pacal Scott and Róisín O'Donovan. Written, produced and directed by Patrick O'Shea (Revenge, The Sign) in his feature debut, 'Tree Keeper' unfolds in a small rural town and its neighbouring woodlands: Doire, a young man in his mid-twenties inherits a hundred acres of mature woodlands when his father dies. The film which will shoot in two blocks this summer stars James Browne (The Wrong Turn) as Doire alongside Róisín O'Donovan (The Sign), Pascal Scott (Killinaskully), Ciarán Ruby (Red Patriot), Martina Carroll (Under the Goldie Fish) and Charlie Ruxton (The Eclipse). The film's two shooting blocks are the last two weeks in June and the last two weeks in July to correspond with the availability of actors.

The 8th Clones Film Festival will open on Wednesday 21st of October at 8pm. Celebrating local involvement in film, the night will include a screening of short films 'Waiting for Goldfish' directed by Paddy Cahill and produced by local man Feidhlimidh Wrafter, and 'The Chronoscope' from writer/director Andrew Legge. James Finlan, director of the first series of 'Killinaskully' and lecturer at the Huston School of Film & Media in Galway will present a workshop on Saturday, October 24th at 3pm in The Courthouse on 'The Art of Pastiche in Filmmaking' where he will examine how to maintain artistic originality while being true to generic conventions. This event will conclude with a screening of Finlan's award winning film 'Eireville'. James will also act as one of the judges for the 'Francie' awards on the festival's closing night.

Fans of the team behind the award-winning short film 'Whatever Turns You On' will tonight enjoy their latest offering, an 8-part drama series called 'The House' that will be broadcast on Dctv. The House' follows four diverse central characters, whose interweaving plotlines involve murder, computer fraud, dodgy bankers, newspaper ethics, all offset by plenty of comic moments. Cast members include Jack Walsh (Killinaskully) as an eccentric homeless man called Dodo and Senator Eoghan Harris, who plays a newspaper editor with anger-management issues.

Irish Cinematographer Cian de Buitlear, talks to Iftn about his lighting facility Teach Solais (Lighthouse), the company's recent work on Neil Jordan's 'Ondine' and on the big scale production of 'Leap Year' currently shooting in Ireland. With Head office based in An Sruthán, An Cheathrú Rua, Conamara, and a showroom in Ardmore Studios, lighting supplier for television and film Teach Solais have been in operation for over two years now. The company's short existence has been extremely busy having supplied lighting to many Irish productions and cinematographers including television titles; 'Killinaskully', 'Whistleblower', 'The Galway Races' - a seven part drama for TG4 and features; '32A' directed by Marian Quinn; the upcoming 'Ondine' by Neil Jordan; Pj Dillon's debut feature 'Redux' as well as the current shoot of 'Leap Year' starring Oscar nominee Amy Adams (Doubt).

Director Frank Kelly (Emily's Song, Bill for Short) is gearing up for the production of two new upcoming films: the short - 'Slan agus Beannacht' and feature doc '140' based on the blogging website Twitter.com. 'Slan agus Beannacht' tells the story of Pat, a rent collector who has walked the same route for 30 years. But with increasing violence on the streets and a changing Ireland he now stands to lose friends, his job and his way of life. The short will feature the acting talents of Paschal Scott (Killinaskully), Gerry Shanahan (Colour From the Dark), Shane Murray Corcoran (King Arthur, Angelas Ashes), Eric O'Brien (Emily's Song), Noel Kelly (George Gentle: Bomber's Moon, Bill for Short) and Tony Leddy. Jj Rolfe (Satellites & Meteorites) is Dop with shooting to take place in Drogheda and Dundalk in April for one week.
