Good introduction or refresher
awerling16 June 2007
For those who know nothing about the life and ministry of Francis of Assisi, this is an excellent place to start. The documentary spans his initial encounter with Christ all the way to his death, in just under an hour. Indeed, it is a sketch with some nice insights provided by various commentators. I'm not partial to reenactments, and there are plenty here. I prefer seeing the places themselves, as well as the art of the time. As the documentary creators are only imagining what the visuals, I would prefer to be allowed to do the same; dramatizing these events without the depth that can occur in a film risks deflating the impact of the moment. This does happen here...I found myself looking away and listening to the words and enjoyed it much better. But there are beautiful countrysides, and plenty of other visuals which work quite well. In the end, this is a pleasant way to get an introduction to the work of Francis, and hopefully a desire to learn much more.

Warning: Spoilers
3.25.11 TGIF, I was truly floored and have recommended others to purchase Reluctant Saint: Francis of Assisi. I now understand the amount of suffering, sacrifice and courage St. Francis committed in the name of Jesus. Once again you proved we're never to old to learn more than we think we know and I was emotionally moved by this masterpiece of a Documentary. Your choices of Liv Schrieber and Robert Sean Leonard were excellent in even further holding my attention especially with two canines barking at every sound. The musical choices were very inspirational and further inspired me to share the good news with my nephew and best friend. I thank you very, very much and pray most (especially animal lovers) purchase this excellent Documentary.

The Father and the Son are the Parents of the Holy Spirit, if many churches are correct. The Trinity is a Family-- two Parents and an Offspring, if many churches are correct. In the Book of Job which is part of the bible, the Lord is compared to a Father and also a Mother with a womb. "From whose womb comes the ice? Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens"--Job 38:29. What is written in this paragraph (before this sentence) is compatible with Catholic Church doctrine. Saying that the "Father and the Son are the Parents of the Holy Spirit" is simply another way of saying that the Holy Spirit "proceeds from the Father and the Son" which has been official Catholic Church teaching for centuries. Of course, The scriptures are vague if the Holy Spirit is the 3rd or 1st or 2nd Person of the Trinity--whichever of these is true, the First Person and the Second Person may be the Parents of the Third.
