This film is cute. The acting seems a bit amateurish but this minor flaw does not interfere with the audience's enjoyment of the film. Some of the scenes seem a bit implausible but not in a way that seems particularly irritating. People who enjoyed classic feel good comedies like 'Back to the Future' will probably enjoy this film as long as they don't mind reading subtitles. By the way, this film is (of course) more enjoyable to people with some knowledge of Japanese but since the comedy is NOT based on linguistic puns, it actually translates surprisingly well. After watching this film, you may be surprised at how similar Japanese humor is to the American variety.

Interesting Comedy About School Aged Guys

Waterboys is a very unique comedy about a group of students who decided to join a swim team just because they find the coach extremely attractive. Little do they know, they had just signed up for a synchronized swimming team. From being mistaken for drowning in the ocean to becoming dance dance revolution masters, Waterboys documents these kids in their attempt to become Japan's first all-make synchro team.
Waterboys is extremely well done, with many sub themes that tie together in the end, and true to life conflicts between character, Waterboys add a level of humor masterfully done so it is not quite over the top, at least most of the time. Putting its characters in extremely odd situations, such as running through an almost-empty swimming pool full of fish, smiles are brought to face. The acting is well done, as well as the camera work.
This movie is simply put amazing, if a bit slow at times; bring smiles without becoming totally unbelievable. Definitely worth the watch, with a 8.5:10 from me.
